This slow-moving film seems to be taking shape, with casting rumors that Nick Cannon is playing Pryor in the film produced by the Weinsteins and Forest Whitaker.
Of everyone in the world, they had to choose Nick Cannon? Sure, he has a vague resemblance to Pryor, but Cannon isn’t a good actor, nor is he funny – both requirements for Richard Pryor.
What’s even worse? The director is Lee Daniels. I have no doubt Daniels is a talented director, but this is just dodgy – instead of being a scathing, edgy biopic on Pryor and his groundbreaking career, we will be getting Lee Daniels’ heavy film. Daniels is a completely inappropriate director choice, because his films are either very heavy and convoluted (The Paperboy) or about predjudice and discrimination (Precious, The Butler). Neither one should apply to the Pryor biopic. However, Daniels could surprise us.
This doesn’t at all look promising – what’s next? A Bill Hicks biopic directed by Michael Bay, starring Macklemore?
Nick Cannon……ok then.
Why is it that nowadays every marginal entertainer or
politician has to have their lives told in another boring bio-pic.??
