I’m usually getting ready cleaning, cooking, and drinking and seem to never have enough time to just sit my butt on the couch and watch everything that’s on….Usually skidding into my place just as the show starts.

But I know some people that have fascinating rituals / plans for the day….what are yours?

Well, usually it’s eat all you want, drink all you want, (I stock them all) shaddup and leave me alone if I disappear; keep griping and whining to a minimumm, hit the can squarely when you have to up-chuck; laugh a lot and stay off my landline.

    Lol.

I live in South Africa, so the Oscars are broadcast live at 3AM, so I usually go to bed super-early the night before so I can wake up. But now that I’m done with school, I stay up and just speculate speculate speculate 😀

I have a party every year.

This year, we have a red carpet (picnic table runner) going up my sidewalk to my covered front porch into the viewing room.  There’s an Oscar pool of course.

I provide bottles and bottles of Trader Joe’s wine and munchies and people supplement with their own fun foods and drinks.

This year’s theme is to dress for either the Best Dressed or Worst Dressed list and we’ll vote. 🙂

I’ll be in the middle of giving three(!) of my midterm papers while the show is going on, so I’ve got the worst luck ever. This always happens every year! 🙁 But like what I’ve been doing every year, I won’t touch the computer or tv remote, nor talk to anybody the whole fcking day, and then catch the primetime repeat 8 hours later, or just download it online as soon as I get back.

I’m not into the actual ceremony, just looking at results.

Drinking?! Might temperance be more appropriate? You don’t want to be so fuddled as to think Gravity wins when in fact it’s 12 Years a Slave.

I’ll be up with the sun, see a movie, possibly purchase some edibles and drink, but not much, nor anything too weight inducing – don’t want to wreck the figure or mindset. Then I’ll settle in and ooh and aah at how slim and fabulous the stars look, then imagine the fans stuffing their faces wondering why they don’t look similarly svelte.

Make sure those I am which know me already and accept me for how I can be during this mess of an event…

This year, I have a rooting interest with a longshot nominee being a 3-decade + friend of mine. He told me today part of him hopes he doesn’t win, since the idea of accepting terrifies him. He solicited advice on what to say – like most of you, I got my fantasy speech down pat years ago. I told him he’s welcome to use it (it would express gratitude and appreciation, but then cite the serendipity of the award throughout history, and dedicate it specifically to several great filmmakers who never won).

He told me I was on his on-line thank you list if he wins (nominees are allowed to submit a list of names of those beyond who they mention on the show).

    ^Good luck to your friend!

I used to do the usual: themed food, party with friends, all that jazz. But since discovering this site I just fiddle with my predictions all day 😛

My birthday is tomorrow (March 1st) so I’ll be waking up late on sunday (I hope), so that’s a few hours of the day that will go by fast. I always get a bit desperate because it seems like every sunday goes by so fast except this one. I have almost all of this season’s House of Cards and Out of the Furnace just in case.

But my only true Oscar ritual or tradition is the fight with my family so we can have lunch/dinner early. We never ever have lunch at noon on sundays, not even 3pm, it’s always very late, so they always start getting ready late and if I go with them, I know I’ll be back halfway through the red carpet, so the fight starts to get lunch over by 3pm at the latest for this sunday and Globe, Emmy and Grammy sunday too.

evening/night with awards-watching friends, food + drinks, and laptop up with a live stream ready just in case. You never know, and I can’t have tv/channel/signal failing during Best Actress.

I don’t do anything special, just sit back, relax, and let it all unfold with my laptop ready for tweets and posts on here.
