At last we have our nominations for the big evening and a few surprises as ever.
So where to begin with it all………….we may not all be surprised but the following names I did not expect to miss out,
Redford, Hanks, Greengrass, Winfrey, Thompson and maybe to a lesser extent but for me I feel for Daniel Bruhl missing out who I thought gave a really strong performance in Rush. Maybe the F1 theme just didnt resonate with Oscar.
Surprises – Even though she is pure quality the nod for Streep was not expected at all and i still am puzzled by it. Bale although really good in AH was not really in the frame and to come in ahead of Redford and Hanks was even more left field to me as the others lrft in the category were pretty unmoveable.
Does it suggest Hustle is day by day picking up all of the positive momentum and nods in all acting catergories suggest so. As for the forecast 13 noms for 12 YAS I do not think it is as bad as being made with 9 nominations. I am sure there is more relief with the fact they got as many as they did with the mixed messages being sent out for its brutality.
Blue is the warmest colour?? clearly Oscar thought there was far too much blue in it but again huge surprise that one.
As for Oprah it did suprise me there was no nomination. I never expected her to win of course. Is it wrong of me to think that there are not enough black actors/actresses nominated this year? At this point im not sure but worth putting it out there. I may well be wrong and that we have all those in who are deserving.
Of course they can’t please everyone but they do score the odd own goal every now and again.
So we have our nominations now its time for campaigning and champagning to get those all important votes and at this stage still wide open but it does seem that AH may just be pulling ahead…………………………………..long way to go of course!!
What nominations did you you like and what really annoyed you?
