Hello, the point of this forum is to learn more “useless” tidbits of information about the Oscars. I will start us off with a question. Respond with the answers and/or ask trivia questions related to Oscars of your own.

Here we go with the first few questions:
    1) Name the only producer to win an Honorary Award the same year they competed for the Best Picture. Name the film he was nominated for.
    2) Name the 8 men to win Best Picture and and be presented with the Irving G. Thalberg award at the same Oscar ceremony. Please name the film that won them the top prize of their year.

    Hello ETPhoneHome,

The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award is described as such: “Creative producers, whose bodies of work reflect a consistently high quality of motion picture production.” While still counted as an honorary award, there is also a separate “Honorary Award” that can be given to anyone, not just producers.

Merian C. Cooper, director of King Kong, was an Oscar-nominated producer of both Little Women (1933) and The Quiet Man (1952). He won an Honorary Career Achievement Award in 1953, the same year that The Quiet Man was nominated

Ok, my mistake. I had always thought of an honorary award being any non-competitive award.
