I agree, Amour was boring, did not get the fuss.

Also unrelated, do people still love La La Land? I feel lonely as the only person that still likes it even if people keep telling me it’s a piece of shit…..

Everybody in that lineup was better than Lawrence but Riva was a mere third for me. Quvenzhane Wallis and Naomi Watts were impeccably superior.

Beasts of the Southern Wild is deeply overlooked. Wallis was great, but she was a mere second while Naomi is third imo

Conclusion: Marion Cotillard gave the best performance that year.

I know predicting the other categories is kinda useless right now since like 75% of the movies haven’t been released yet but can we just have the other categories all open since the movies would already be in the data base?

Wallis would have been such an inspired winner.

Wallis was easily one of the worst nominees of the past few years. She’s a cute little girl and has a great potential to become a good actress, but she had absolutely zero idea of what she was doing. It was a fine performance, but not better than the rest of the category or Marion Cotillard, Kara Hayward, Ann Dowd – so on. I wouldn’t put her in my Top 15.

LOL, Wallis better than Lawrence? You guys saying that are 100% delusional. I can’t possibly take anything you say seriously after hearing that.

don’t think wallis was a bad nominee at all. she was the heart of the movie. not better than lawrence no but just as good as other child actor noms/winners like paquin

Come on, Paquin was on another level. Like I said, there is a difference between acting and being cute (and the heart of the movie). I kinda liked Wallis later on, in Annie, even if the critics didn’t like the film overall. She has improved a lot in a few years. Like I said, she has the potential to be a great actress, but her Oscar nomination is weak as heck.

Oscar has this sick fascination about little girls, but emotionally mature performances like Tremblay’s or Jamie Bell’s are overlooked big time. What a shame.

Yes, Wallis was miles better than Lawrence. She knew how to carry an entire film with such energy and heart and it wound up being more complex and humane than I expected, at five years old no less. Lawrence knew how to smash plates on the ground and laughably screech “Fuck you! He’s harraaaassing me!” and cry and y’all thought that was impressive enough to be in the top five performances of the YEAR? When she didn’t even understand Tiffany or take her to a place of depth?

Wallis (along with Watts and Riva) was indeed one of the redeeming factors in a remarkably weak and un-competitive line-up that year.

Am I the only one who thought Cooper took Lawrence to school in SLP? Especially with how (to a certain degree) subtle and understated he was compared to Lawrence’s over the top antics? If DDL and Joaquin Phoenix were not in the best actor race that year, it should have been Cooper being the Oscar winner and not Lawrence.

Let’s take a deep breath. Done. Now, we all know you hate Lawrence, but this post is ridiclious. I mean I can take your previous opinion on Lawrence being the weakest link in the category. It’s absolutely subjective and I’m aware your hatred towards one of the greatest young actresses named Jennifer Lawrence, so it was like okay. But Wallis knew how to carry an entire film? Really? I mean no offense, but that little girl knew nothing about her film, her character or acting in the first place. Like get fucking real.
Tiffany was meant to be all over the place and over the top. That’s how mental illness works in some people. Lawrence was absolutely charming, charismatic and fun – not to mention she and Cooper (who I normally not love) were superb together. You take every opportunity to bash Lawrence, which is fine, but you have to deal with the fact, that most people liked her in the role, and that once again most people find her VERY talented.
