THAT was an incredible trailer. I liked Crazy Heart for the most part, and it looks like Cooper is not only maintaining what was good about that film, but building on it as well. Bale looks like he’s at his best (almost as though he’s chanelling Bridges in Crazy Heart) but the real star of the trailer was Woody Harrelson! It looks like he’s playing a dark, grity and possibly psychotic villain here a la Ledger/Bardem/Waltz, and I wonder if he can generate some supporting actor buzz for this.July 11, 2013 at 8:53 pm #105312
^ couldnt have said it better. What a trailer!! This movie could present Woody with another chance to bag the gold.July 11, 2013 at 9:02 pm #105313
Yay! Hopefully the film is good. I’m officially rooting for Woody HarrelsonJuly 11, 2013 at 9:59 pm #105314
Harrelson looks great! I was really rooting for Casey Affleck, who will no doubt be great, but judging from the trailer Harrelson looks to have the juicer role. And he looks like he nails it. Bale also looks really, really strong. Can’t wait to see it.November 23, 2013 at 2:13 pm #105317
Voters have received screeners of this film, so a campaign may be under way after all.
Just read that Leo DiCaprio is listed as a producer. I wonder why he’s not playing the lead role.December 7, 2013 at 7:23 pm #105319
Oh boy, were the critics wrong about this one.
I thought this was great. Terrific cinema, an old-school, suns-out-guns-out thriller. Christian Bale took this film by storm and Woody Harrelson was terrifying. I liked Scott Cooper’s “Crazy Heart” so I’m glad I enjoyed this one too. I’d love to see him work with Willem Dafoe (who was great here, too) in a leading role.
I’d give Bale and Harrelson Oscar nods, and if Jared Leto’s Rayon didn’t continue to haunt me to this day, I’d possibly give Harrelson the Oscar.
Also, the inspiration that this film drew from “The Silence of the Lambs” was evident. A nice touch, in my humble opinion.
