Who gives the better performance? I am a voter for the Independent Spirit Awards, and having seen all 5 Best Male Lead nominees I have narrowed who would get my vote down to these 2 performances, but cannot make up my mind as to which is superior? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated? Which actor should I vote for on my Spirit ballot…

    Pattinson…

    …or Chalamet?

    Chalamet quite easily.

Pattinson gives a terrific, tightly coiled performance for sure. It’s one that a young Pacino would have in his filmography for sure. His bug-eyed stare could poke holes through diamond for sure. It’s an astonishing performance, absolutely.

But Chalamet’s performance stays with you for how grounded and unassuming it is. If it were up to me, that’s where I would go, Teridax.

Chalamet because he’s so effortlessly natural.

I am also done with my Spirit Awards ballot.

Chalamet easily wins this for me. And probably 99.9% of the Film Independent community.

I know he will probably win in a landslide. He was also really great in his Lady Bird supporting role. I think I will vote for Chalamet because Pattinson is pretty much playing the same character the entire movie while Chalamet’s character Elio Perlman goes through a lot more complex emotional changes and development throughout Call Me By Your Name, much of it impressively subtle.

By “done with your Spirit Awards ballot,” do you mean you have actually seen ALL the nominees in every single category, or do you mean you have figured out who and what you are going to vote for? What do you mean by that exactly? You’ve seen Good Time and CMBYN then, I take it?

Yep. I’ve seen all nominated films.
Which is great, since most nominations come from the same films.
Not like previous years where you have to wait till the last minute to submit your ballot because there are two or three obscure Indies you still havent seen.

My ballot is done. Will submit it a close to the deadline.

Chalamet’s getting my vote, and it’s not even close. Although the other nominees are all quite good.

I haven’t seen CMBYN yet, but Good Time would be getting all my votes, probably. American indie cinema at its very best

If you don’t mind my asking, do you know how I can find Faces Places, A Cambria, and I Am Not a Witch? Those 3 films are literally the only ones I am still having trouble locating anywhere. They never came to a theater near where I live, I didn’t get them sent to me as a screener, and they are not on Netflix, Hulu, or my local Redbox.

I loved Faces Places and want it to win so badly, esp. at the Oscars! (Although I wouldn’t mind Jane winning, esp. since I have met Dr. Jane Goodall in real life and love her).

I am just so relieved that 3 Billboards can’t win Best Film or Best Director. I can watch without worrying about it.

I expect Timothee Chalamet to win at the Indies and deservedly so. I hope Call Me By Your Name wins Best Film.

Did you see Good Time? What did you think of Robert Pattinson’s performance compared to that of Timothee Chalamet? Also, I thought you were rooting for The Florida Project to win Best Picture? Then again, you gave the Baker film and CMBYN an A+, so I take it either one winning Picture at the Indie Spirits would be a dream come true for you.

I did see Good Time. I felt that while Robert Pattinson was very good it was a very one note performance. Bennie Safdie was the MVP and gave that film’s best performance. Chalamet is a million times better than Pattinson imo.

I would be equally thrilled if Call Me By Your Name or The Florida Project were to win; I just think CMBYN is more likely to win.

I am rooting for Sean Baker to win Best Director.

I always enjoy the Indie Spirits; they do soemtimes surpirse us too.

There’s no way Pattinson will gain enough momentum to win. No way at all.
