I was just wondering if you guys think it would be a great idea if two actors (male/female) were nominated as one in their categories? I think it would be a great idea if their were two leads in a film, worthy of nomination but it would cause controversy, due to some submitting as solo nominees instead of double.
What do you guys think?
I doubt it. Actually, I don’t think there’s a chance in the world that it would ever happen, and I’d be mad if it did. Unlike Amy and Tina, who did their acting as one duo, two actors/actresses would be playing two different characters with two different performances. It would never happen.
Even for the Emmys, I can’t see many possible applications of Fey & Poehler as a precedent. Like, how many shows can have two people just pop up in one episode in a season as “Hosts/Themselves” or anything comparable?
It really only worked for Tina & Amy because they both played “Host,” which is usually a one-person gig.
The only way I could see it happening is if there were some sort of experimental film where the lead character is played by two people who alternate every shot. Otherwise, we’ll have to wait until animated performances get nominated! (The lead animator and voice actor would be jointly nominated, I suppose.)
Other joint wins in awards history (not ties)…
2001…Jennifer Ehle and real-life mother Rosemary Harris win Supporting Actress at the Satellite awards for their work in the film Sunshine…their’s was a joint nomination for playing the same character at different stages in life.
2009…3 boys win Best Musical Lead for Billy Elliot at the Tonys…
Only if they are twins who have the same lines, same facial expressions, equal screentime or so in a movie. And even then, it would be a bad idea.
