Have you ever had two performances that you thought deserved an award so badly, both of which, say, truly belonged in the lead acting category, but you wanted both to win the award, that you put one in supporting…?

Me, personally, no. I ran into this my first year doing the SMART TV awards, in Comedy Lead Actress. I had Amy Poehler and Eva Longoria both nominated, with “Flu Season” and “Farewell Letter” as their submissions, respectively. It was so tough, and I refused to put one in supporting (mainly because Wendie Mallick was nominated in Supporting with “Good Luck Faking the Goiter”, so I would have had the same problem), so I just gave it a tie.

No, not during the 8yrs or so with the Fisher Kings, a handful of us from different parts of the world choosing our Awards. If there were an issue with category placement we discussed it before hand and chose where they would go. We also had a rule where the same actor could not compete in the same category for their respective films.

I’d agree with the tie. A tie is always preferable to any hint of category fraud, is it not?

    No. Not usually.

Daniel Brühl would have been second on my supporting actor list, but I considered that category fraud.  Given that I did not consider him one of the five best leading performances, I did not give him a nomination.  I was tempted to do a tie or something, but I consider that cheating.

Yeah I’m skeptical of doing a tie just for the sake of it…
