Finally a thread in the Oscar forum that makes it almost impossible to gush over Meryl Streep once more.

I wonder how many posters in here have actually watched all of her nominated work. And the one that wasn’t nominated.

It’s not hard to watch all her nominations and her other works, I can say that watched 80% of her filmography and I’m only 19 lol. Only two performances of Streep were worthy of a nomination and she got snubbed: Marvin’s Room and Machurian Candidate (and the GG nominated both of them), but when you realize that she was nominated for Ironweed and Music of the Heart everything sounds fine.

    3. Blood Diamond
    ——–

Funny…I rank IRONWEED as either Streep’s best or 2nd best performance ever (flip flops with A CRY IN THE DARK).  Usually rank MUSIC OF THE HEART as my least fav nominated work.  MARVIN’S ROOM and THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, although not bad…did not impress me much.

Here are my rankings of the nomianted work…I know POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA are very high (gasp even before SOPHIE’S CHOICE!!! – but I so adore her in comedy!!!)

    1. A CRY IN THE DARK
    2. IRONWEED
    3. ADAPTATION
    4. SILKWOOD
    5. THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY
    6. POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE
    7. JULIE & JULIA
    8. THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
    9. SOPHIE’S CHOICE
    10. THE IRON LADY
    11. ONE TRUE THING
    12. THE DEER HUNTER
    13. KRAMER VS. KRAMER
    14. OUT OF AFRICA
    15. THE FRENCH LIEUTENANT’S WOMAN
    16. DOUBT
    17. MUSIC OF THE HEART

non nominated work – couldn’t make a list of 17…I’ll do 12 as if she tied Hepburn and Nicholson.

    1. DEATH BECOMES HER
    2. PLENTY
    3. THE HOURS
    4.
    A PRARIE HOME COMPANION
    5. THE RIVER WILD
    6. DEFENDING YOUR LIFE
    7. THE SEDUCTION OF JOE TYNAN

    I forgot about The Hours

Outstanding work, she surely deserved a nomination. If there was a
movie that deserved to received 3 nominations in Best Actress, it was
    The Hours.

Ironweed is a mess for me. Nicholson was great and Streep was fine, but that fifth spot should have gone to Streisand (the favorite) in NUTS or Lilian Gish (or Bette Davis, the legends) in Whales of August, imo.

This is how I rank Streep’s nominations:

    1. Sophie’s Choice
    2. A Cry in the Dark
    3. The Bridges of Madison County
    4. The French Lieutenant’s Woman
    5. Adaptation
    6. Kramer vs. Kramer
    7. The Deer Hunter
    8. The Iron Lady
    9. The Devil Wears Prada
    10. Doubt
    11. Silkwood
    12. One True Thing
    13. Postcards from the Edge
    14. Julie & Julia
    15. Out of Africa
    16. Ironweed
    17. Music of the Heart
