Every year, I rank the 25 best performances. In my opinion, we can compare every performance. Of course, we are parcial and subjective. But if people weren’t parcial and subjective, we won’t have our beloved Oscars in the first place.
So, here it is. Agree? Don’t agree? Want to kill me? Don’t understand? Who is missing?
And, for the first time ever, the best performance of the year, in my opinion, may not win the Oscar… 🙁

    1. Meryl Streep, THE IRON LADY
    2. Michelle Williams, MY WEEK WITH MARILYN
    3. Jean Dujardin, THE ARTIST
    4. Viola Davis, THE HELP
    5. Thomas Horn, EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE
    6. Démian Bichir, A BETTER LIFE
    7. Jessica Chastain, THE HELP
    8. Bérénice Bejo, THE ARTIST
    9. Octavia Spencer, THE HELP
    10. Christopher Plummer, BEGINNERS
    11. Max von Sidow, EXTREMELY LOUD & INCREDIBLY CLOSE
    12. Brad Pitt, THE TREE OF LIFE
    13. Kenneth Brannagh, MY WEEK WITH MARILYN
    14. Brad Pitt, MONEYBALL
    15. Shailene Woodley, THE DESCENDANTS
    16. Nick Nolte, WARRIOR
    18. George Clooney, THE DESCENDANTS
    19. Glenn Close, ALBERT NOBBS
    20. Rooney Mara, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO
    21. Gary Oldman, TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY

That woman was amazing. I never saw such a great Hollywood entrance. All great performances from Jessica Chastain.

^ Go pook, see it! I ahd the pleasure of seeing it since it premiered early here, and though Redgrave was the top supporting actress in the film, Chastain held on her own. One makes you appreciate Chastain more when you see all these varied and diverse performances from her. Such a shame all made it for a single eligibility year, since Take Shleter and Tree of Life would have merited her another bunch of Oscar nods.

    Thanks Isk. I definitely will.

It’s too bad about Vanessa Redgrave, the film and Fiennes being overlooked this year. I’ll bet she was terrific.
At the very least, I saw her in “Anonymous”, where she cast her ego aside and played a wonderfully honest Elizabeth R.

Swinton would top my list as well. Andy Serkis is a STRONG second place. The rest: Yun Jeong Hie, Tom Hardy ‘Warriors’, Jessica Chastain (take your pick, I guess ToL), Michelle Williams, and Brad Pitt ‘ToL’.

Glad to see someone give her kudos for The Debt. I thought she was fantastic in the underrated film.

in George Clooney’s rank of 25 best performances of 2011, I bet Michael Fassbender’s penis in SHAME stands high – it was for George a great best supporting role ahahahah
