With the 15th Pixar film to be released this summer worldwide, and talk of Inside Out being among their best work, I thought us Derbyites should appreciate the work of one of the most successful collection of films ever.

You can rank your favourites of the 14 films released so far, then when Inside Out is released, and as people see it, they can add in their rank for this, to make top 15.

This will be open for a couple of months before the final results are revealed, so that Inside Out gets a fair shot.

A reminder of the 15 films to be ranked, in chronological order:

    Toy Story
    A Bug’s Life
    Toy Story 2
    Monsters, Inc.
    Finding Nemo
    The Incredibles
    Cars
    Ratatouille
    WALL-E
    Up
    Toy Story 3
    Cars 2
    Brave
    Monsters University
    Inside Out

Ugh, this is so hard… Okay, here it goes…

    The Untouchables:

I think all five are legit masterpieces (and honestly WALL-E would’ve been here as well if the second half could match the incredible first half, but it just doesn’t work nearly as well). These aren’t just some of the finest animated films I’ve ever seen, but some of the finest films I’ve seen, period.

    1. Ratatouille
    2. Toy Story 3
    3. Inside Out
    4. Finding Nemo
    5. Up

Terrific A-works of Art and Entertainment:

Not quite as strong as the first 5, but these are just a notch beneath. I think ‘The Incredibles’ works extremely well as both an action spectacle, and a family dramedy. The characters are done so well and their dynamic is what makes you care when the action kicks in, but it just doesn’t have the *thing* that the top 4 have. ‘WALL-E’ has it…until it doesn’t.

    6. The Incredibles
    7. Toy Story
    8. WALL-E
    9. Toy Story 2
    10. Monsters, Inc.

B-Level, but Enjoyable All the Same:

‘A Bug’s Life’ and ‘Monsters University’ are both quite funny and they’re light, fun stories. ‘Brave’ is GORGEOUS, but it’s honestly a little dull sometimes. Ditto for ‘Cars’. They are not bad films by any means, but after being spoiled by the greatness of some of their other masterworks, these pale in comparison.

    11. A Bug’s Life
    12. Monsters University
    13. Brave
    14. Cars

    The Only One I Flat-Out Don’t Like:

I was not a fan of this one much at all. I didn’t care for a single character, most of the humor is extremely forced, and I never felt like a single thing about it’s existence was justified. Why (beyond selling preoducts)? Looks can only go so far…

    15. Cars 2

Eagerly waiting on ‘Inside Out’ and then ‘The Good Dinosaur’. Very curious about which tier(s) they will fit in.

I still have yet to catch up with Pixar’s last 3 films, since I guess the buzz around them couldn’t incentivize me to see them in theaters. My favorite film is easy, but the rest of the order is often pretty interchangeable.

    1) Toy Story 3 (regularly in the running for my all-time favorite animated film, alongside Grave of the Fireflies)
    2) Toy Story 2
    3) Ratatouille
    4) Up
    5) Finding Nemo
    6) The Incredibles
    7) Toy Story
    8) Wall-E
    9) Monsters, Inc.
    10) A Bug’s Life
    11) Cars

We need to do a Ghibli ranking. You know, because ranking Pixar just isn’t cruel enough.
