Over the past few days Hateful 8 screened to HFPA, SAG and a few other groups. Several people who saw it told me that the first half drags, but the last hour and a half is top-notch Quentin. Overall, expect many noms, but it won’t win Best Pic, they all said.

This upcoming week HPFA sees Revenant, Joy, Concussion and Anomalisa

I want to know what they have to say about Jennifer Jason Leigh’s performance? I’ve been puzzled as to her high rankings considering nobody seems to have seen the movie (until this screening, apperently!) Is the advance buzz deserved, in their opinions? I have my doubts….(I personally think The Hateful Eight is going to miss getting a Best Picture nomination, mainly because the category is incredibly crowded and it will place in 12th or 13th; we’ll see….)

What was the early reaction to Django? Because for me that too dragged towards the end, and should have been a decent amount shorter. Plus that ended up with several nominations, and 2 wins.

With a better campaign, Django Unchained would have been nominated for Directing, Editing and twice in Supporting Actor.  With an even later release and less star power, I am not expecting this to do any better and I think that it will miss SAG and the Globes entirely.

A link to the official The Hateful Eight thread is below.
This information would be much more welcome there, and doesn’t need its own thread.

I dislike Tarantino and his films. I find them totally distasteful and crude. sure he has good production values and great casts but I always want his films to fail. He makes basically the same violent film over and over. Hearing the so far tepid response to his latest, warms my heart!!!

Lol. I absolutely adore his movies. And, his screenplays as well.

My fingers are crossed hard for this movie…and his cast…and for him as well. Although, I’d be majorly shocked if they ever ever give him a Director’s Oscar. He deserves one.

Not so sure the overall reaction will remain ‘tepid’. Not in my house anyways Ben.

I’m like Benbraddock. I don’t really understand why Tarantino is so admired. It’s not necessarily that his films are too violent, I just consider them all overly long, pointless, and most of the time, boring. Pulp Fiction just seems to me like a completely random and talkative mess. Inglorious Basterds was good, but just had such a weird, totally unbecoming voice and energy of a WWII film. And again, it was way too long. None of his films that I’ve seen are awful, but I’m glad that he hasn’t won a Best Director or Picture award. He hasn’t ever deserved it. The Hateful Eight, in my opinion, looks pretty bad. I hope the lukewarm response continues.

    ^Kisses Ben!

You dont have to like the film, but Pulp Fiction is genius. And so is the screenplay (etc) he wrote for True Romance.

Jackie Brown, Kill Bill(s), the raw Reservoir Dogs….actually this latter one is almost a “precursor” to Pulp so yes, sometimes his films “seem” similar…the divisive Inglourious Basterds (seems like a Canadian way to spell it), Grindhouse/Death Proof, Django, and his segment in Four Rooms is my favorite…

Yes, I am a fan of his. I’d just rather, that he didnt try to ‘act’ in his movies. Although, I can see how it would be ‘fun’ to put yourself in your own film…although, he’s not Hitchcock…not yet.

So, I expect great things from H8 in Tarantino fashion. And I love that cast too.
