Nicholas Hoult has been cast as J.D. Salinger in a bio pic titled “Rebel in the Rye” a play on to Salinger’s famous book Catcher in the Rye. Danny Strong, writer of Empire, The Butler, Game Change, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2, is the writer adapting it from the Salinger biography “J.D. Salinger: A Life” by Kenneth Slawenski. It will take place during the writing of Catcher in the Rye.
I couldn’t be more excited since the book rights for Catcher in the Rye are impossible to get so this is the closest thing we will get from the story.

No, it is very possible to get the rights to Catcher in the Rye, its just no filmmaker has the skill to do it, and won’t even dare. But I am sure Paul Thomas Anderson can do it – he took a notably unfilmmable author, Thomas Pynchon, and made one of the best films of 2014, Inherent Vice, so I am pretty sure he can do Catcher in the Rye properly.September 1, 2015 at 12:29 am #193569
I’m not one to gripe about casting decisions, but Hoult just seems a little too pretty to play Salinger.September 1, 2015 at 8:06 am #193570

Not to mention not American, not Jewish and not a good actor. I would think Miles Teller was born to play Salinger.November 27, 2015 at 3:05 am #193571

Is there DNA analysis available on the net for these actors as well?
I was relieved to see that Hoult is cast. Hope he stays until the end.
Not entirely sure about Hoult, but he surprised me in Mad Max, somewhat.
This is sooo ambitious. Kudos for trying.
Catcher In The Rye started me on ths struggle called awareness.
