I am in LOVE with the idea of Idina Menzel as The Witch! That would have been AMAZING.

I have a feeling that if anybody else played that role, they’d be a much stronger Oscar contender than Streep is (simply because she’s Streep).

As Moore is currently proving, this is the year where the role of Alice could have won any 50+ actress her overdue Oscar. I could easily see Annette Bening, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robin Wright, Lorraine Toussaint, Jamie Lee Curtis, Viola Davis, Kathleen Turner, Sigourney Weaver, Angela Bassett, et al earning their well-deserved gold with the role.

I found recasting Amy out of Gone Girl the toughest to call by far. A combination of an outstanding performance from Pike and the character being so out there made it near impossible to find someone capable enough to hyothetically take on the role.

I got lazy and just put my time into thinking about a few roles that I feel were nominated for the power of the part.

I found Steve Carell rather staid in Foxcatcher. I would much rather have seen John Travolta take off the toupee, wash out the hair dye, and dig down for that one great performance we have been anticipating, that we deserve, after enduring so much marginal effort.

I was not knocked out by Michael Keaton in Birdman. I wish the film had fully embraced its Latino roots in magical realism and brought in Demian Bichir. That would have been something to see.

I support J.K. Simmons for his much anticipated win for Whiplash, but I can’t help but think what a stunning piece of work it would have been with Sean Penn.
