What the heck happened to Renee Zellweger’s career? After winning for “Cold Mountain” she has only picked really crappy movies… She hasn’t done quality work since.

Why is this? did she just pick the wrong projects? Any chance the Bridget Jones sequel might get her back in the Academy’s favor? It seems odd that while Kidman has continued to do great films, Zellweger has not.

I think the bad performances in bad movies just sank her career lol

I don’t like her as a whole, but I like her from Jerry Maguire to Chicago. Her win is, personally, one of a few that I consider a bad performance that won an Oscar, and her latest performances are worse than ever, in Cinderella Man and Miss Potter she gave two of the most embarassing performances of the decade, imo. Maybe I’m exaggerating in some people’s opinion, but this is just me lol

Meh. I don’t dislike Zellweger but I don’t particularly care for her work either. It seems fitting that if AMPAS absolutely felt it necessary to reward her with an Oscar, it was for COLD MOUNTAIN, which is her best film IMO.

BTW, I actually like MISS POTTER, which retains some of the sweetness of director Chris Noonan’s previous effort BABE, what with the Beatrix Potter illustrations coming to life, etc., and the story of a lonely woman…

First off, I don’t see anything odd with Kidman conitnuing to do great work. She belongs to the top tier of the greatest actresses among her contemporaries and her body of work is really versatile.

Anyway, as for Zellweger, I don’t know what happened also. I really hoipe she comes back soon and do quality work. I really like her Bridget Jones nom among the three perfs she had, and it’s one of my fave performances the last decade. She must avoid the breathy delivery though. LOL. And I’m probably one of the few who enjoyed Miss Potter. LOL. Is she Oscar worthy there? Not a chance. But I enjoyed watching it.

My feelings for Zellwegger are mostly solid. I may have chosen her to win among those she was nominated against for Bridget Jones. I do not like her Chicago performance, but she was good in Cold Mountain (not my favorite in her category, but still fine).

I like her work in comedies, and she was delightful in My One and Only (2009).

She was in the running for “August: Osage Country” and on the one hand it’s really bad she wasn’t cast. On the other Juliette Lewis got the role and it’s great to see her in something big again.

As of Renee I really like her. She’s great in comedies (“Nurse Betty”), musicals (“Chicago”) and dramas (“Cold Mountain”). She pretty much saved Bridget Jones sequel and was really nice in “Miss Potter”. I liked her in “Cinderella Man” too and the project was promising yet the reception suggested it didn’t deliver with the exception of (amazing) Paul Giamatti. It was better than that.

Still, she was on top a decade ago and now her career seems to be in a real trouble. I wonder where are her friends she was reffering to in every single acceptance speech.

Disagree with every single word. It’s obvious that you hate her, but come on! I don’t think that she’s THAT bad…Have you seen any Adam Sandler or Paris Hilton movie?

I don’t hate her. As I said she had a great carreer during 7 years, after CM she went down the hill to me. I think she could have been nominated for Nurse Betty, but her performance in Cold Mountain is overrated as hell and her posterior works just got worse.

And I’m talking about serious actresses not ”actors” like Paris Hilton. If Nicole Kidman hadn’t done ‘Rabbit Hole’ she could have receiving the same words that I gave to Miss Zellweger, for example.

You said that in Cinderella Man and Miss Potter she gave two of the most embarassing performances of the decade. I think it’s a little harsh and not true at all…

Have anybody seen My Own Love Song? She was actually good in it.

I loved her in One True Thing, thats when I started paying attention to her. She was so natural and realistic managing to outshine Streep.
As for Miss Potter, I thought Renee was truly delightful. I really enjoyed her there as well. Like I said before, I am really hoping she and Cate Blanchett make a huge comeback. They’ve been off the track for a while now.

Renee needs to remind everyone how great she is but maybe in a different outlet: Why not an HBO film (look at how it made us recognize Drew Barrymore and Claire Danes) or perhaps Broadway? After Chicago, we know she has it in her to do a musical. This would put her name out there while proving she’s evolving as an actress and trying new things.

And though I love that she’s an Oscar winner for Cold Mountain and has two nominations for Chicago and Bridget Jones’s Diary, she’s been snubbed three times by the Academy: Jerry Maguire, One True Thing, and Nurse Betty. So, at this point in her career, she should have 1 win out of 6 nominations. And that’s not the fanboy in me talking; those were truly six Oscar [nomination] worthy performances.

As I said, this is just my opinion and maybe I’m underrating her performance in Miss Potter, but Cinderella Man was an awful movie (with the exception of Giamatti) and she was the worst part, and even worst than the direction of the movie.

I didn’t like her in My Own Love Song (and the movie as a whole), but I like her performance in My One and Only, she was quite adorable there and was the last performance that I enjoyed her.

And yes, to me she gave 5 worthy performances of a nomination (JM, OTT, Betty, Chicago and BJDiary), but it doesn’t mean that she was one of the five best performances in their respectives years.

Ya, she’s such an interesting case in that she just completely fell apart after she won an Oscar. As everyone has said, she gave Oscar-worthy performances in Jerry Maguire, One True Thing, and Nurse Betty…and didn’t even score a nomination for any of them. She finally got nominations for Bridget Jones (meh), Chicago (good…anyone would pale in comparison to CZJ), and Cold Mountain (Natalie Portman was better than Zellweger’s Oscar-whoring). Then afterwards, Zellweger has just completely fallen apart.

I find it funny too that personally I LOVED her with her trifecta of JM, OTT, NB, and now can’t stand her.

I’ve always believed this as well.

That’s why I love this place. Different people, different opinions. I think Natalie Portman was really awful in Cold Mountain and Renée Zellweger was pretty great . 🙂
