Release date for Roman Israel, Esq is November 3rd, according to Box Office Mojo.

    http://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/?view=changes&p=.htm

Gilroy is seriously quick. He’s going to be in demand for a lot of quick turnaround projects in he can do things this fast and efficiently.

And Denzel rises in the Best Actor race. This date gives him much more time to build momentum than the expected late December release. Wonder if Sony saw the Darkest Hour trailer and thought they had a stronger product that they could push out earlier? Probably not, but either way, it’s an interesting devlopment.

Damn..that is quick. This just finished filming in June. Gilroy showing some Eastwood type efficiency in getting this film done.

I believe the closing film for the NYFF hasnt been selected yet. If Sony is really confident in this film, they could submit this for that prestigious slot and get some festival buzz going for Roman Israel Esq before the release date. This gives the film plenty of time for the film to build momentum over the holidays. Good for Gilroy! I would expect a trailer to drop in the near future for this.

Washington’s acting motto is keep it simple. That cuts down on the number of takes right there.

This film seems to be getting some more steam with pundits. AwardsDaily predicting/pushing it as a Best picture Frontrunner, while calling star Denzel Washington, “the Greatest Living Actor”.

Roman Israel, Esq *– Denzel Washington, aka, the greatest living actor, stars in Dan Gilroy’s new film which is expected to be good because Nightcrawler was.

Inner City seems like a cool title while Roman Esquire, Israel sounds like A reality tv Show title

No reality TV title would ever include “Esq”. It would confuse far too many Americans.

I read the plot description for this, and it just sounds soooooo boring. Probably more than Feces Fences, if that’s even possible. The only redeeming quality here is going to be James Newton Howard’s music, which never disappoints.

Because an amplified plot description is a metric for whether the execution of said movie succeeds or fails.

Did I ever say it was? (Hint: No)

Prior to Fences I never got the sense that Sasha Stone was such a big Denzel’s fan but since Fences…damn she has been pushing it to the limit. Glad she finally opened her eyes but maybe the mama should calm down, j/k but I know by experience that in these kind of film forum (award daily..), too much Denzel’s praises can quicly bring the haters and especially the insecures, like bees to honey. It may has already started on this topic.. 🙂

Anyway, back to the movie, that title…I can’t. I tried but I can’t  ! Even Google almost don’t know what the hell I’m talking about, when it was so easy to find news with Inner city as the title.

Good to see Jordan & Pippen on here too 🙂

Well something “interesting” is defintely going on in the air. Every other article by about Washington recently is either referring to him as the greatest living actor, or the greatest living American actor (slight downgrade, but still highly impressive). He’s suddenly being treated like the male equivalent of Streep.

    Esquire is jumping on the bandwagon, calling him the “Greatest Living American Actor” in a just published piece;

    http://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/g3518/best-denzel-washington-movies/

Denzel Washington’s 25 Greatest Movie Roles

A celebration of the greatest living American actor.

Is Denzel Washington the greatest American actor working today?

It’s hard to think of many other contenders. He isn’t known for disappearing into roles. You’re always aware that you’re watching him: the impossibly charming, handsome, smooth-talking black star who somehow single-handedly dismantled Hollywood’s (still active) racial barriers and made Oscar history several times over. Yet Washington has more range from one performance to another than most actors will have over a lifetime. He’s able to convey superhuman fury (Malcolm X) and pitiful defeat (Fences) in little more than a quick change of his facial expression.

And unlike some other maturing leading men, Washington has had no trouble transitioning out of his heartthrob days. At 62, he keeps turning in some of the finest performances of any given year in movies about deeply American problems, particularly race relations, except now the lines on his face convey the wisdom of someone who learned long ago that there are no easy answers

Denzel is good but he isn’t the best living actor or the greatest living American actor.

Ehh…it’s an opinion that many knowledgeble and intelligent people seem to have and share. It’s one I tend to agree with, but I also agree that one doesn’t need to share it, as ultimately all these things as subjective.

I know many people also disagree with the common wisdom that Meryl Streep is the greatest actress alive/ever, and I think they have every right to disagree. But I think Denzel and Streep both have a case for at least being in the conversation (greatest ever/alive) in their respective genders.

I’m more kind to Denzel than most GD posters here. He has a “type” in his performances where you always know that it’s him. Whether it is convincing or not, you always know it’s Denzel in the back of your mind whether it’s by being impressed or annoyed. I would call him one of the best but that’s me.

He’s of the Pacino/DeNiro school (and he’s admitted they are his biggest influences coming up as an actor), where their personas and characteristics are so strong, you are almost always aware of them at the core of their “characters”. As opposed to an Alec Guinness type, who disguises their traits. But people had no problem considering Pacino/DeNiro the best in the world in their prime.

Denzel’s just a much, much, much more consistent version of those guys.
