I’ve been hearing a couple of theories that ‘Room’ can prove to be an upset at the 88th Academy Award and take Best Picture. What are your thoughts on this?February 21, 2016 at 10:55 pm #217790
At least Crash had nominations from PGA, DGA, SAG, ACE and BAFTA in Best Film, Direction and Editing.February 21, 2016 at 11:07 pm #217791

And with that, the discussion is closed, i hope. Thank you Riley.February 22, 2016 at 12:39 am #217792
If that happened, I would regain faith in the Academy. Room is by far my favorite movie of the year, and what an amazing experience I had watching it in theatre. People keep complaining about it sentimentality, and while I can’t deny that it’s true, I don’t see why that would be a problem. I think it’s beautifully acted (I mean, that has to be one of the best-child performances EVER) and masterfully directed. At least it has a soul, unlinke The Revenant. And Jacob Tremblay deserves an Oscar for this movie much more than DiCaprio. Seriously, that scene in the car made me weep like a baby…February 22, 2016 at 3:43 am #217793
Well, it does give you the feels and as we often know, they like sentimentality. If it does win, then I will regain faith that voters have minds of their own.February 22, 2016 at 4:25 am #217794
I loved Room (Its my #2, behind Revenant) but no. Its not gonna happen. no chanceFebruary 22, 2016 at 5:12 am #217795
While I honestly think it has no chance whatsoever, you need to remember that it is the only film to receive 4 out of 5 nominations in the major categories (Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Screenplay), and it only missed Best Actor because they stupidly campained Jacob Tremblay in Supporting. And it’s not like the other films weren’t able to get 4 out of 5, they all were snubbed in at least one category, with the exception of Spotlight: The Big Short in Actor for Carell; The Revenant in Adapted Screenplay; The Martian in Director; Brooklyn in Director, Mad Max in Actor, Actress, and Adapted Screenplay; Bridge of Spies in Director, and Actor; etc. This shows that it is liked across the board in the categories that matter.February 22, 2016 at 5:19 am #217796
It wasn’t nominated to PGA, and there are 10 slots there.
Not happening.February 22, 2016 at 5:49 am #217797
That would make film fans ecstatic up North but, it’s not going to happen.February 22, 2016 at 8:21 am #217798
I wish. It remains my #1 favorite film of the year.
With that said, it’s clearly a distant 5th in the Best Picture race, at best.February 22, 2016 at 8:24 am #217799
