Interesting – the  critics have given the following films over 90% fresh ratings:

    1. Brooklyn 99%
        Phoenix 99%
    2. Inside Out 98%
Born To Be Wild 98% (doc)
    3. Spotlight 97%
Heart of a Dog 97% (not sure?)
        Theeb 97% (foreign)
    4. Room 96%
        Amy 96% (doc)
    5. The Second Mother 95% (foreign)
    6. The Martian 93%
        Sicario 93%
        Coming Home 93% (foreign)
    7. Grandma 92%
    8. Bridge of Spies 91%
        James White 91%
       99 Homes 91%
The End of the Tour 91%
        Cartel Land 91% (doc?)
    9. Experimenter 90%
        Meru 90% (foreign)

Some other films that are touted as Oscar contenders have current fresh ratings of:
    84% Steve Jobs
    74% Black Mass
    71% Trumbo

Some early incomplete fresh ratings for upcoming films include:

100% The Lady In The Van
    100% Aferim!
    100% The Dark Horse
    100% Anomalisa
    98% 45 Years
    95% Son of Saul
    90% Hitchcock/Truffaut (doc)
    89% The Big Short
    87% Macbeth
    86% Creed
    86% Youth
    60% Concussion

It’s interesting to compare these with the final fresh ratings from last year’s Oscar nominees; it helps me to rule out certain films, esp. anything that is below 75% usually doesn’t get in.

“Spy” – 93%. Just wanted to mention in how much people don’t take it seriously, not even for the Globes or a Supporting Oscar nomination for Rose Bryne over someone like Jane Fonda’s nothing performance in “Youth”.

Carol starting its limited run today with 96% on RT and more impressively a 96 on Metacritic as well, so far only Anomalisa is ahead this year with a 98 but with far fewer reviews averaged — Carol will probably have the year’s high score.

What about Mad Max: Fury Road?! I liked the Martian, but if it gets nominated over Fury Road, THEN I’ll be pissed!!!!! 🙁

Oh, and What We Do In The Shadows ALSO, like Mad Max, have higher Rotten Tomatoes scores than Freaking Steve Jobs AND YES, even The Martian. 😉

    I hated hated hated Mad Max Fury Road – I walked out on it and am choosing it as the worst film of 2015 by far. (this, I know, is a personal taste thing. I’m not fond of nihilism at all. I have an INFJ personality). I also walked out on Sicario, despite a good performance by Emily Blunt in the central role (the only reason to see the movie imo. Del Toro was atrocious imo). Those two getting such critical acclaim bothers me and makes me think the end of the world is nigh (;

I didn’t see Phoenix; it looks interesting but it played at a hard to get to movie theatre so I decided to wait and see it on cable or DVD. It’s at 99%, that’s a really big surprise! Has anybody seen it? What did you think of it?

Just saw Spy – I wouldn’t give it 93% (it was at least 20 minutes too long and some scenes felt repetitive), but it was wonderful and Melissa McCarthy was fantastic! (:

Phoenix is a great movie. In a fantastic year for actresses, Nina Hoss still sort of towers over the field from what I’ve seen.

Mad Max: Fury Road has a 97%.

Not including it because you hated it invalidates your entire list. What’s even the point?
    Metacritic is better anyway.

    Bye.
