There are so many movies out there which just love to tug at your heart strings and essentially rip your heart out of your chest.

I’ve realised that some people connect to a certain film and others don’t. For example, my friend cried their eyes out while watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind yet my eyes didn’t even water.

So, what is the saddest movie in your opinion? And if you want to say, why?

A movie that always gets me is ‘Steel Magnolias’, classic 80’s film about a group of southern women who connect while under different situations.

The end scene ALWAYS makes me sob tears of sadness and then tears of laughter and then tears of joy, it details the end of one life and then the beginning of another.

Schindler’s List. That movie is incredibly sad from start to finish. Obviously because of its content, but also because of Schindler’s low-key kindness.

In the end scene, when the war is over, and he’s looking at all the people he saved; he’s thinking of the things he could’ve sold to save one more person. That was heartbreaking.

The Imitation Game. The ending and the music by Alexandre Desplat just gets me, including that speech from Keira Knightley.

OMG yes Philomela, that had me sobbing. A story that goes from a high point to such a low point and in such heartbreaking circumstances.

Sometimes I cry at bizarre movies but hopefully these are pretty mainstream criers:

United 93 (I had to actually pause the DVD at the phone call scene so I could bawl)
    Big Fish
    The Ox-Bow Incident
    Marley and Me
(the wrong movie to watch when you have an aging dog)
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
    Atonement
Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father
    Amour
