Today, Sam Smith has been revealed (finally) as the artist behind the official song for Spectre.

Last time around, Adele won a BRIT Award, a Golden Globe and even an Oscar for her track of the film Skyfall.

But what of the odds for Sam Smith, winner at the Grammys and BRIT Awards earlier this year, and one of the biggest singers on the planet of the last 12-24 months?

Will he follow Adele’s career path, from BRITs Critic’s Choice, to the Grammys winning podium, all the way to Oscar glory? Will he be nominated, but fall short of another rival? Or will the Academy go back to snubbing Bond tracks again?

I can’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be nominated, I think he could win but it won’t be a sure thing like Adele’s win was.

The nomination seems locked, but we must remember Skyfall was the first Bond song to win at the Globes and Oscars, just because he’s the biggest male singer at the moment doesn’t mean he has to win, if the song is great i would give him the award, but to me his music is nothing amazing. I’m still hoping for Lady Gaga and Diane Warren to be nominated and win.

Same here. Looking at their competition, I don’t see anyone as a threat, at least not yet. It’s an incredibly powerful duo in every way possible.

The song could suck royally. Hopefully it’s not a sad or depressing song like every track on “In the Lonely Hour” (I like the songs on the album, but seriously, lighten up!)

I think they could as they outlier in a year full of potenial nominees of chart hits (50Shades, F&F7, PP2) and hopefully gaga’s gets the O in her EGOT

I think I would have to hear the song first to make that judgement.

What if he ends up a double nominee for both TWOTW (Spectre) and Flashlight (PP2)

Now that we have heard the song, what are people thinking?

    Unsurprisingly bland.

Hope doesn’t get awards traction. The initial reaction has been very, very mixed.

Disappointing. Even for a Bond song. And he said he wrote it in just a few minutes. And it shows. They really should have gone with Emeli Sande. There were rumours that she was a top choice. Superior songwriter.
Even the Alicia Keys/White song was far superior to this mess.

Agreed. I’m not totally fond to “Another Way to Die” but that song was ok, uneven as it turned at least the collaboration was interesting. This…  this has nothing.

It sounds like an album filler track…

No way. It sounds way too similar to “Skyfall” (which wasn’t exactly a boundary-buster itself) but drearier. Definite rush job.
