Another film festival that will announce its lineup in the following weeks…
Rumour has it that Javier Bardem will be the President of the Jury. It hasn’t been announced yet officially. Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz are in Spain, she’s giving birth next Month, so they will stay here until October. San Sebastian Film Festival takes place in September, after Venice Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival. Bardem won the Silver Seashell for Best Actor in 1994 for “Dias contados”, the movie that gave him the breakthrough in Spain.
Weird that she is not giving birth in USA as with her first child.
San Sebastian Festival is trying too hard to have the relevance than Berlin, Cannes and Venice… but for me, i prefer Valladolid festival. It is a B category now, so they are not force to introduce new films which give as a nice chance to see films who has a good critic in previous film festivals.
Well, that’s because San Sebastian had a huge fame in the 90s and lost it in the 00s. Let’s face it, a festival works when the movies are:
1. THE BEST OF THE YEAR (That usually happens at Cannes)
2. OSCAR WINNING-NOMINATED TITLES.
In the last years, only this titles gained attention:
2002 – Mondays in the sun
2003 – The Station Agent, Girl with a pearl earring, Memories of murder
2004 – Brothers
2007 – Eastern Promises
2008 – Frozen River
2011 – The Deep Blue Sea, Take this waltz
