Please continue your discussion of “Secret Life of Walter Mitty” here in this new thread. I had to kill the old thread because of tech glitches due to that monster photo that could not be shrunk — the monster could only be killed.July 30, 2013 at 9:00 pm #106878
That sure looks like the unexpected Oscar bait of the year.July 30, 2013 at 9:47 pm #106879
^I agree. And I think it looks really great. I’m very surprised by how much I enjoyed the trailer.July 31, 2013 at 8:49 am #106880
Definitely going to be a contender for Cinematography, Costume Design, Makeup and EditingJuly 31, 2013 at 9:05 am #106881
Yeah, was very surprised by the trailer. When I saw Ben Stiller then I saw Kristen Wiig, I thought I knew exactly what this movie would be. But the trailer really surprised, especially by the fact that there’s no dialogue (until the very end clip). Looks very intriguing.July 31, 2013 at 5:10 pm #106883
This movie looks pretty snob-free. I think I’ll be watching it.August 1, 2013 at 10:50 am #106884
Centerpeice of NYFF. Really intrigued how it lands.August 1, 2013 at 11:11 am #106885
The centerpieces the last two years were My Week With Marilyn and Not Fade Away.
As I suggested earlier, this does look like a potential two-fer – critics + audience appeal, which could propel it to serious Oscar consideration and build on last year’s theme of the return of the major studios to the Oscar race (they won picture, actor, director, supp actress – 4 different companies, Warners, Disney, Universal and Fox)
I think there’s a chance that Weinstein might not win any of the top 6 Oscars this yearAugust 1, 2013 at 6:23 pm #106886

I’m fine with that.August 5, 2013 at 2:43 am #106887
I think this is a huge contender for the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture: Comedy or Musical and Best Actor: Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (unless it is campaigned under drama, which is possible considering the tone of the trailer)August 5, 2013 at 3:31 pm #106888
Trailer gave me a serious Forrest Gump vibe, and I detest Forrest Gump, so hopefully the trailer was misleading and this is actually a great film. Stiller has certainly proven himself as a director.
I’m not a huge fan of him as an actor, and I don’t usually like when a director casts his/herself in a film as I don’t think it’s realistically possible to give yourself notes/constructive criticism on your own performance. I’m actually quite surprised that Stiller didn’t cast Jim Carrey. This seems like a role tailor-made for him.October 1, 2013 at 9:35 pm #106890
My favorite short story from high school back on the big screen. I can’t wait!!!!!!!!
