Every year there is some veteran actor who puts in an acclaimed performance, and is predicted to be nominated and possibly win. Sometimes they even get the precursor nominations and then an Oscar nomination and possibly a win (Christopher Plummer for example)

However, sometimes there are shocking snubs from these veterans.

For example – Jack Nicholson in The Departed. He got a lot of precursor nominations, but was snubbed when it came to the Oscars. Can anyone justify this oversight? Because it never appears on snub lists (I wasn’t an avid Oscarologist at that time), so was there some reason for this?

What else are shocking veteran snubs?
