I just saw the documentary Side by Side in which Keanue Reeves interviews a variety of directors and cinematographers about their views on film and digital. Has anyone else seen it?
It was really interesting seeing such a diversity of opinions. On the one hand you had people like Fincher and Soderbergh almost showing a disgust toward film, and on the other hand you had people like Nolan and Pfister digging their heels in and refusing to even entertain the idea of digital. Scorsese was one of the few who seemed to fall somewhere in the middle.
They talked about what a huge deal it was when Slumdog Millionaire became the first digitally shot film to win Best Cinematography. Since then two more have won for digital work.
Do you guys have any strong opinions on the topic?
