I am predicting eight at the moment (that seems like their magic number as of late): Arrival/Hacksaw/HOHW/Hidden Figures/La La Land/Lion/Manchester/Moonlight. But I could definitely see Fences coming in at #9.

I have eight because I have Hell or High Water missing.

    Always hoping for five.

Yeah…could you imagine the meltdowns people would have if there were only FIVE?

I’m having a lot of trouble figuring this out. Because I feel like past Moonlight, Manchester and La La Land pretty much nothing else is a lock, like at all.

Right now I’m predicting 7, but fully expect it might be 8 or 9. But I’m only really confident on 7 movies so I’m stopping my predictions there (currently have Manchester/Moonlight/La La Land/Lion/Arrival/Hidden Figures/HOHW)

I feel like lion is actually at risk. Everybody likes it, it is on most people’s list, but is it anybody’s #1? Not many. I could easily see it falling out because it’s nobody’s #1.

Doubtful. Most want a return to five.

Eight feels like the natural course for these things. And last year was the worst to have an expanded field and they still nominated eight movies.

I just mean if only five end up nominated then several films people are rooting for would not make it.

I wish they would go back to the solid 10 bc that was the best line up.

Ten is too much. It meant more when you earned a nomination with the five only system.

La La Land, Manchester By The Sea and Moonlight are as close to locks as anything can be.

Arrival is next up in likely fourth place.

Then it gets interesting: Hell Or High Water, Lion, Hacksaw Ridge and Hidden Figures to me seem to be battling for fifth place. It may mean that all four get in, so we have eight.

Fences would be ninth, but don’t think it will make it.
If it somehow gets to ten, then I see I, Daniel Blake sneaking in.

    Eight.

    1. Manchester By The Sea
    2. La La Land
    3. Moonlight
    4. Arrival
    5. Lion
    6. Hidden Figures
    7. Hell or High Water
    8. Hacksaw Ridge

    Alt: Nocturnal Animals

I’m thinking 8 is the most likely number. LaLa, Moonlight, Manchester, Hell or Highwater, Arrival seem like safe bets. Lion, Hidden Figures and Hacksaw making the eight.
I’m afraid of something crazy like Nocturnal Animals, Florence Foster Jenkins or Silence sneaking in on some wave of Academy love.
I’ve never thought Fences was getting in and unless it wins the SAG ensemble I’m going to just leave it that way.

Not confident in anything past La La, Moonlight, Manchester, Arrival, and Lion.

    I’m thinking 9 this year:

    1. La La Land
    2. Moonlight
    3. Manchester By the See
    4. Arrival
    5. Hell or High Water
    6. Lion
    7. Fences
    8. Hidden Figures
    9. Nocturnal Animals

I think the buzz for Hacksaw Ridge has fizzled…

    1. La La Land
    2. Moonlight
    3. Manchester By the Sea
    4. Arrival
    5. Hell or High Water
    6. Lion
    7. Fences
    8. Hidden Figures
    9. Hacksaw Ridge

I could even see it being ten if Silence finds a passionate base. But after those ten I don’t see many films picking up many votes.
