Like “Foxcatcher”, I can see “Sicario” getting in for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, plus obvious nominations for Best Supporting Actor, Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. Maybe Best Film Editing, Best Original Score and… Best Picture. What do you think?

I’m predicting Film Editing, Sound Editing, and Original Score, but it can also get in for Del Toro. Beyond that, it feels like an uphill battle, but not impossible.

I really feel like a closer comparison is Interstellar. Foxcatcher was more in the conversation for BP by this time and Miller was at least in the top 10 consideration unlike Vilaneuve.

I see nods for supporting actor, original screenplay, editing, sound editing and cinematography. But not BP nor BD.

Sicario reminds me more of the Anglo version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Respected more than loved…

Sicario is a starkly subversive film which, like Tattoo, surprises me that it’s remembered and taken notice.

Tattoo went on to receive five noms winning for Editing.

I’d LOVE to see another year where Editing and Best Picture are split…and miles apart.

And Emily Blunt is terrific here. It’s almost a shame that she doesnt have that particularly Oscary scene where the snot runs down her nose, and she screams and cries, and then walks into a river with rocks in her pockets….

    Just sayin’….

I dont believe Del Toro has any chance in this competition i mean Bale, Rylance and Elba are near lock, then you have Ruffalo, Shannon Tremblay, Stallone, Dano there is no room for Del Toro. Too late too little.

I have Sicario only in sound editing but i can see it getting screenplay and editing too. Score? dont believe so. but maybe im wrong

No, because Sicario is actually a watchable, enjoyable film.

In terms of Oscars, I am predicting Original Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Score, and is 10th in my Picture predictions.

I don’t think it has a strong shot at Director, but it could be the surprise hit on Thursday.

Not cinematography? I’d be shocked if Deakins wasn’t nominated, he seems to be every time he’s seriously in the conversation. He even got a nom for Prisoners over 12 Years a Slave, which seemed like a slam dunk.

Editing? So you think Spotlight s not getting in?
ANd in score i have Sicario #8. its strong category i mean Danish Girl,Inside Out, Spotlight, Brooklyn and Sicario are probably fighting for last spot

Edit; Yup, im predicting Sicario also in Cinematography. So 2 noms.

Spotlight missed ACE and Bafta editing. There is no reason so far to not-think is not going to be nominated for best editing at Oscars.

…plus obvious nominations for Best Supporting Actor…

Not sure the word “obvious” applies in this category at all this year, let alone for Del Toro.

Or this years Nightcrawler, it’ll only get in where there is no serious competion. Cinematopgraphy and maybe score.

A d’oh, yes, I also have it in for cinematography. Arguably its safest bet.

I really enjoyed this film. I hope Del Toro can get nominated. I will say the only thing that might hurt the film is that it is somewhat similar to Zero Dark Thirty.
