I guess this is the norm now with how they handled Get on Up last year. Looks like Love and Mercy will be over there too

Yes, that’s the expectation re Love & Mercy. But just 2 years ago they put “Inside Llewyn Davis” into comedy/musical ….that’s where they put “Ray,” too — into  a category previously won by “Walk the Line.” ….  go figure

Its not too shocking – at its heart it was a drama. Inside Llewyn Davis, however, was the darkest of comedies, so the comparison there is a bit unneeded. It doesn’t stand much of a chance in either category anyway, to be honest.

Next they’ll say Inside Out is a drama, even though animated films aren’t allowed in the major Best Film categories.

Meh. Did not have high awards hopes for it anyway.

Oh no? Pixar won the Best Comedy category with Toy Story 2. Of course, they haven’t been nominated there since The Incredibles, but it’s still possible. Don’t think an animated film ahs ever been nominated for Drama so that would not be the best choice (even if it probably is more accurate).

I thought that Animated Films were deemed ineligible for the Best Film categories after the introduction of the Animated Feature category in 2006.

Oh, wow, I think you’re right. Never knew that (of course I don’t really give a shit about the Globes). That would explain why Pixar never returned to the Best Film categories, especially with stuff like Wall-E, Up, and Toy Story 3.

Jason Mitchell deserves a Best Supporting Actor nomination from everyone.

Awesome!! It’ll be tough for it to sneak in, I think, but it’s where it belongs.

    Interesting scoop!

Compton’s box office is a surprise, especially for the ‘mainstream’, given it’s subject and portrayals…and music. Hopefully a media-addled nomination (in drama!) from GG’s brings it MORE attention and notice from the..er…masses.

    Either way, go Compton!

Yep, you did say it, and you look dumb as hell for saying it.

First of all, what is a “black film”? – no such thing, my boy. There are films, and that’s it. There might be target audiences, but that means nothing – was A Separation a “Muslim film” or Amour a “elderly film” – and even if there is a target audience for this film, it is more to young people or those who know N.W.A. and love them.

But just to humour you, and suspend my dubiousness of this idea that there are “black films”, here are some examples of films that have black protagonists or deal with black issues, that have won or been nominated for Golden Globes

    • In the Heat of the Night
    • The Color Purple
    • Cry Freedom
    • Glory
    • Sister Act
    • Amistad
    • Hotel Rwanda
    • Ray
    • Dreamgirls
    • The Great Debaters
    • Precious
    • Django Unchained
    • Twelve Years a Slave
    • Selma

That’s not to mention the dozens of films that also contain Asian, Hispanic, LGBT and disabled stories and characters in the lead roles.

Please check your facts before making such outrageous claims, Jason.
