I went with Amy Adams. Leo, I thought was good, even though I didn’t think it was her best work.  My personal choice for the Oscar would still be Jacki Weaver, though.

I went with Adams too, but neither of them were worthy for the Oscar nomination.

    My Personal List
    Anne-Marie Duff in “Nowhere Boy”
Kimberly Elise in “For Colored Girls”
Melissa Leo in “Welcome to the Rileys”*
Hailee Steinfeld in “True Grit” (if I consider her supporting)
Kristin Scott Thomas in “Nowhere Boy”

Leo. A big, showy, supporting actress performance from a character actress. Her win is the reason they have these supporting categories in the first place.

Either Steinfeld or Adams should`ve won for sure.

Leo was good but this was the first role Adams really shed her nice girl image for me. She was a force to be reckoned with in this movie and if any of The Fighter ladies should have won, I wish it was Adams. Steinfeld was my personal choice that year (Barbra Hershey for Black Swan overall)

I really liked Melissa Leo, but Adams was my personal winner that year.

I liked both as well, but I’d go with Adams. She walked a fine line between showy and subtle, and she proved that she was capable playing a character other than the innocent types she had played previously (Junebug, Enchanted, Doubt etc.). Were it not for Steinfeld, who should’ve been in lead, I’d easily give her the Oscar that year.

how ironic, I picked for Adams last poll,

and now I picked for Leo,

    and both most likely lost.

Adams is wonderful here, and if it wasn’t for Jacki Weaver’s brilliant performance, she would contend for a win for me. It will forever make me sad that Leo’s cringe-worthiness is what got the attention.

Adams has consistently shown to be one of the only performers able to squeeze good work out of David O. Russell’s direction.

Well, I always appreciate Leo’s perfs in everything, even her ‘bit’ parts. Not so with Amy, who can really irritate me sometimes.

But not here. I voted for Amy.

Seems like the uncalled for hate towards Leo’s performance has retroactively calmed down. Leo and Adams were the best, most authentic things about that movie. I prefer Adams here only slightly.
