Is anyone excited to see this Movie ? Has anyone read the Book ?

I just finished the book last month and it was great , i’m excited to see this movie and excited to see Emma Watson in a contemporary role and Tom playing somewhat of a villain.

I loved it. I feel like there isn’t a lot of buzz on the movie though.

I’ve read the book – not a huge fan but could see how it may translate well to screen. The lead character (played by Emma) in particular is sooo annoying.

The book is really bad. The author came up with an (unoriginal) premise and a setting but didn’t really bother with developing a plot or characters. Every character is completely lacking nuance of thought and can only see things in black and white terms. A film might be a better format than the book but seeing Dave Eggers co-wrote the screenplay too I expect Transcendence levels of bad.

The book is pretty much 1984 meets The Social Network, but that doesn’t stop it from being really good. Emma Watson, Tom Hanks and John Boyega all look like they’ll do great in their roles, which they’ll need to, since they’re arguably the three most important characters in the story. They haven’t really shown any shots of Patton Oswalt or Karen Gillan in the trailer, but their characters are also really important to the story, especially Gillan’s.

Even though there’s not too many shots of Ellar Coltrane, his character will also be important as well, particularly near the end. And it looks like the film won’t even include the character of Francis from the novel (who’s pretty important to the story), as there’s no mention of him on the cast list on IMDB.

On a bittersweet note, this will sadly be Bill Paxton’s final film. RIP.

I plan to see it this weekend. My expectations are low, however.
