Who will win WGA Original Screenplay, Lady Bird or Get Out? I’m really struggling with that one and ANY feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Considering that this is Peele’s third nomination with no prior wins, I’d say Get Out.

The globe stuff around Gerwig could help her here.

Doesn’t that also apply to Peele considering his complete snub?

I, Tonya, could surprise and win it.

My final, ranked SAG predictions are now up! What I’m especially intrigued about – does Dafoe benefit from Harrelson’s presence on the ballot?

It’s rare but getting an Oscar nomination w/out a VES nod does happen: (Spider-Man, Real Steel and Ex Machina). I think The Shape of Water will get in for Visual Effects despite the VES snub if for no other reason, it seems sure to be a Best Picture nominee.

But its reel had a not-so-good reception at the VFX bake-off, just like Arrival, which also didn’t have a single nomination at VES and was snubbed at the Oscars, despite being a BP nominee.

I could see a snub happen since The Shape of Water was also snubbed in the Make-Up & Hair category. Which coverage of the bake-off did you read, just curious if there was a different take I missed? I was reading Next Best Picture’s coverage on Twitter. After the event, at least one person said they liked “the one with the fish”. Granted, that’s just one person though.

I think there you have the five nominees, very probably Kong missing from the photoreal feature and Dunkirk getting in from the Supporting FX category.
In my opinion Shape of Water will have a very hard time here, is probably done.
If something else gets in I’m thinking in Okja, I just don’t know for what film, maybe SW since it got a not so impressive reel at the bake-off.

I think if any film is likely to get an Oscar nomination for Visual Effects it will probably be Okja and not TSOW. Okja got a much better reception at the VFX bake-off, with some members even saying it could outright win because it has the most heart. I think Okja is safe, but keep in mind that Ex Machina was still a Bafta nominee in spite of its VES shutout, which The Shape of Water is and Okja is not.

    Shape of Water = Arrival

I thought you believed Dunkirk was this year’s Arrival. I guess the Bafta nomination and VES recognition changed your mind on that one?

The WGA win depends on whether Lady Bird or Get Out can win PGA. If one of them wins PGA, it will take WGA as well, which would boost its profile in the Oscar race.
