Just returned from seeing this film and I really enjoyed it. Having only seen the trailer and not reading about it, I was surprised by how well it was acted. John Krasinski (Jim from The Office) starred and directed this movie in which Margo Martindale plays his ill mother.

I found parts of the film to be extremely emotional and there were some great scenes in particular for Richard Jenkins and Martindale. I would love for them to break in the Supporting categories, and part of me thinks Martindale might since she is beloved.

Also, Anna Kendrick was in this and I realized, I NEED MORE ANNA KENDRICK MOVIES! She is a wonderful actress.

Has anyone else seen this movie? Thoughts?

Haven’t seen this one but I can fathom Martindale randomly showing up at SAG, particularly given the weakness of that category.

COMING SOON to The Awards Connection…Horror at the Oscars!

I found this movie so mediocre. It’s such a Sundance formulaic movie that doesn’t have a spunk of originality or stand out performances. Martindale is great but that’s because she’s always great. She was even great in Mother’s Day even though she was given terrible material to work with. She’s just a great screen presence. I could see SAG pull a I Smile Back with this but this is not a very good movie. Jenkins is so over the top in this and over forces all his crying scenes. Go see Other People instead. So much better with the cancer story and a much better ensemble all around episodically Molly Shannon and Jesse Plemmons
