Well, well, well. Looks like Portman might win her 2nd Oscar, for Jackie Kennedy biopic. The reviews from Venice are saying its her best performance yet. Even better than “Black Swan”
The Film Stage: “Natalie Portman is believably manic in the unexpectedly cerebral” https://thefilmstage.com/reviews/venice-review-jackie/
Ace performance by Natalie Portman in JACKIE, Pablo Larrain’s brilliant, brutally honest film, breathing life and pain into Mrs. Kennedy.
Oh “Jackie”! P. Larraín masters his poetic grief performance post-Dallas to perfection. Portman’s performance is devastating #Venezia73
In other hands JACKIE might have gone horribly wrong, but with Pablo Larrain and Natalie Portman on astonishing form it’s magnificent
Natalie Portman = an Oscar contender for her powerful turn as Jacqueline Kennedy in JACKIE:
“Jackie” is still without distributor but with these reviews i guess it will change soon
Btw This Best Actress race gonna be awesome. Davis vs Portman vs Stone vs Adams vs Streep and then Huppert, Bening…a lot contenders 🙂September 7, 2016 at 5:55 pm #1201918637
Welcome back!September 7, 2016 at 9:21 pm #1201918702
Imagine if Nathalie Portman and Annette Benning are both nominated and Nathalie beats her again. This would be like Hillary Swank vs Annette Benning all over again. I would feel so bad for Annette if this actually happens.
I would love to see Portman win again though. She’s an excellent actress and extremely underrated.

I’ve been reading the reviews and I think Nathalie Portman could be the Frontrunner now.September 7, 2016 at 10:17 pm #1201918712
I don’t think so.
Hopefully that the previous 20 years of her career only yielded one movie with at least B level reviews helps prevent her from coming close to getting 2 for having 2.September 8, 2016 at 8:56 am #1201918818
Yeah I don’t see Jackie winning Best Picture.
Besides, in between her wins Swank did have Insomnia. The best portmania has had to offer is…Thor. So your comparison is false.September 8, 2016 at 9:06 am #1201918822
55 A Tale of Love and Darkness
53 Knight of Cups
49 Jane Got a Gun
I mean, heck, if you made the scope the last 10 years, she has one even sorta positively reviewed film release. The just-premiered Planetarium falls in line with this pattern too.
While just in 2000-2003 between her Oscar wins, Swank had both Insomnia and The Gift (78, 62).September 8, 2016 at 9:35 am #1201918828
Yes, Natalie. Yes.
Comin’ for #2.September 8, 2016 at 9:42 am #1201918834
Lol Metacritic! Insomnia and The Gift are now better movies than Knight of Cups and My Blueberry Nights. Sure.
What everyone seems to be overlooking right now is the fact that Jackie is a biopic and Portman is playing a real life person and getting raves for that. The Oscars love biopics, need I remind you all? Just ask Viola Davis.September 8, 2016 at 9:57 am #1201918844

I agree! There’s nothing the Oscars love more than awarding actors for playing real life characters… And JJJmoss, when Academy members vote they don’t vote based on the actor’s filmography or metacritic score, they vote based on the strength of the performance, the film, and the buzz. Natalie Portman has already been approved by the Academy twice with ‘Closer’ and ‘Black Swan’, why would they have a problem giving her a 2nd Oscar?September 8, 2016 at 10:01 am #1201918847
Well you all seem to have drunk the Kool-Aid so there’s no productively arguing with you.
I just think an actor who only does one even sorta good film in a 10 year span shouldn’t win on a 2nd fluke.
