Michel Hazanavicius’ follow-up to The Artist is a drama film titled The Search which is about an NGO worker who bonds with a small boy who’s been separated from his mother in the war-torn nation.
Annette Bening and Berenice Bejo star, though it’s currently unknown which one is the NGO worker and which one is the mother. It is one of Bening’s multiple potential Oscar contenders this year.
Knowing Hazanavicius, I expect Jean Dujardin is also involved somewhere. I’m also expecting a Cannes debut after his success there with The Artist.
Worldview Entertainment has North American rights.
I assume this is in english?
I think the movie takes place in Chechnya. Bejo looks far more passable as Chechen than Bening so I’d assume Bejo plays the mother.
I loved the original. Best Monty Clift performance.
Berenice Bejo will, obviously, play the Montgomery Clift role and Annette Bening will IMO play the role of the superintendent of the orphanage, played by Alice MacMahon in the original (who was also the narrator). Even the ages seem to fit.
I can easily see Oscar nominations for both ladies, if Hazanavicius pulls this off.
