I don’t know why, but I really want Quentin Tarantino to direct this.

If Aaron Sorkin doesn’t write this script I may cry.

If it’s gonna be directed by Jay Roach then I don’t mind it at all. Actually any substantial director will do it for me. Although the movie might be against my beliefs I’m curious about it.

Note to TWC: look at the films that thrived at the Oscars today – they mainly were films with a director’s vision and producers who stepped back and let them do their stuff. I might be thrilled with the themes here, but until I hear who the director is and who is in charge, this sounds like another Lions for Lambs.

Well with Harvey on her side, it looks like Streep is guarenteed a 19th nomination in the future. I really hope this film is picked up by an excellent director. Streep is getting too old to be depending on herself to give a remarkable performance.

20 years ago this would’ve ended up in the hands of Oliver Stone.

I would LOVE a Sorkin screenplay for this.

Director suggestions? (maybe Tom O’Neil can convince Harvey to read this board)

I know she’s refused deals with him before but I’d love if Harvey could get Kathryn Bigelow for this.

If Sorkin does the screenplay the director choice is easy: David Fincher

Agreed. Harvey, please don’t get the John Wells and the Phylida Lloyds to direct this. For once! choose a good director Meryl!

I would love to see J.C Chandor direct something like this, because I love what he did with Margin Call and would like to see something political in the same vein. Even though Redford wasn’t nominated, he demonstrated an ability to direct in a way that brings out a great performance, especially with the minimal dialogue, in direct contrast to Margin Call. I think he’ll have gotten enough publicity now to be a little in-demand too. He might still be too fresh to be considered, but I’d love to see it.

Really INTRIGUED by the TIMING of this film’s announcement.  And coming from Harvey Weinstein !!!  There might be something up his sleeve.  This could all be related to Meryl’s Best Actress & Oscar #4 bid …

Hmm. Weinstein might not being doing this with any hope of awards. He might be doing this because he wants to educate the public about what really happened with the background check bill. If that is the case, he might want to limit some of the director’s flexibility in order to ensure the film stays true to history (to minimize criticism). This might be why he was able to get Meryl Streep attached to it, not because he needed a great actor but because she supported the idea.

Very curious to know the other cast involved specifically who will play The Senator & NRA Head.  This project is prime for award prospects (knowing Harvey) as getting awards will provide legitimacy, credibilty and longevity to the film’s message.  Since Weinstein & Meryl are challenging a BEHEMOTH (in NRA), then they might as well give this their best shot.

I’ve been DYING to see a film on guns in America.  The film I’d turn to for inspiration is TRAFFIC, directed by Steven Soderbergh, which was an incredible fusion of storylines by Stephen Gaghan depicting the war on drugs, its impact on people on both sides of the border, in both private and public spaces.

I doubt Kathryn Bigelow would take a project with Harvey.  For her, it comes down to the script and the character.  Frankly, this doesn’t seem to be her kind of project, unless it was a larger story like Traffic that could take on the visual style of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, with a strong central character.  I’m not sure if she would go for a big star like Meryl.

Like others have said, it 100% depends on who the director is.
