My ten for this year (provided they all really come out this year):

    1. Inside Out
    2. Spectre
    3. The Hateful 8
    4. St. James Place
    5. Star Wars
    6. Kingsman
    7. Silence
    8. The Revenant
    9. Sicario
    10. Mr. Holmes

And for a quick look back, my ten for this year were:

    1. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
    2. Enemy
    3. X-Men
    4. Grand Budapest Hotel
    5. A Most Wanted Man
    6. Interstellar
    7. Fury
    8. The Wind Rises
    9. Gone Girl
    10. The Monuments Men

Not all turned out to be as good as I expected, but 4 of my favourites at the end of the year were in the top 5, with Dawn not quite being as good as I expected.

Many of the choices above but emphasis on:

    Jurassic

    Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie

    Jupiter Ascending (love the Wachowskis)

    Star Wars

    Spectre

    Branagh’s Cinderella

    Mad Max: Road Fury

    Brad Bird,  Tomorrowland

Ron Howards’, In the Heart of the Sea; why not?

    The Hateful 8

    Wild Card;  sue me

    The Hunger Games

    MI5

    Terminator: Genysis

    Sergei Bodrov’s, Seventh Son

    Poltergeist (brave to go there)

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2: The Green Destiny (braver still, but it’s stuntmaster Woo Ping Yuen)

and lots of others. All the ‘arthouse’ stuff; all the FLF I can find.

I try not to anticipate too much as it often results in disappointment, but these ten seem quite promising:

    Carol (Todd Haynes)

The Duke of Burgundy (Peter Strickland) – has already been seen at festivals

    The Hateful Eight (Quentin Tarantino)

    Knight of Cups (Terrence Malick)

    The Lobster (Yorgos Lanthimos)

    Macbeth (Justin Kurzel)

Queen of the Desert (Werner Herzog)

    The Revenant (Alejandro G. Iñárritu)

Ricki and the Flash (Jonathan Demme)

    Silence (Martin Scorsese)

I’d put Jobs but I doubt it’ll make it to 2015.
