I apologize if this is duplicative but am I the only one thinking if this litany sexual harassment/assault scandals had broken a year earlier, it’d be 3 time Oscar winner Denzel Washington not Oscar winner Casey Affleck? Also the Globes and the Oscars aren’t going to seriously ask him to present are they? If I were the winning actress I’d refuse to share a stage with him.

Aren’t Affleck’s sexual assault allegations old news compared to what’s going on this year? Even if it’s not entirely resolved, I doubt anyone can fully remember it better than Harvey Weinstein’s career-destroying crimes or Kevin Spacey’s reshoot-meriting scandals.

I can see Affleck being “unavailable” for award shows this upcoming season. This is partially why I am starting to think that Oldman isn’t the lock everyone thinks. Wouldn’t Hollywood want to have a Best Actor winner this year that is 100% free of controversy.

I don’t think Oldman saying some silly things in interviews is going to have much of an effect when the whole of Hollywood has far more important things to worry about. Maybe at the Globes because he apparently insulted them or something.

I’m just shooting from the hip 🙂 I could see them picking someone who has zero controversy. A Hollywood legend like Tom Hanks (even tho I personally can’t see it happening right now) is a good example.
I’m personally moving away from Oldman simply because his odds are not fantastic right now so it makes more sense to play the game with long shots and put him back in when the census starts to take shape.

Where does it end? Personally I think someone like Streep should be snubbed for her “God….Harvey Weinstein” remarks just 5 years ago while accepting her Iron Lady Globe.

The industry knew about Affleck and still voted for him. I’d be offended if they tried to cover up the fact they overlooked his past to give him the award. Them not asking him back won’t change the face they all voted for him.
