Spectacular film. Mark my words: Frances McDormand is winning lead actress. It’s undeniable. It will be undeniable. It is just one of those performances. Sasha, I know you’re rooting for Sally, who I am not seeing till Thursday, but McDormand gives such a beautiful towering performance that not only am I confident she’ll win, but I am confident that you will root for her once you see her. To put it in perspective: think MEW’s performance in Fargo but even crazier.

I could imagine a scenario where this wins for McDormand, Rockwell, Score, screenplay, and possibly even picture. The movie in general actually does remind me a lot of Fargo (the movie), which is sort of perfect.

The screenplay was fantastic. I’m lost trying to decide if I liked this more than Ladybird.

This movie is so funny and so fucked up but so beautiful. Also, I’m surprised nobody is predicting Woody Harrelson. His role is small but it’s total bait.

I currently have it #1 for Picture, Screenplay, Actress + S.Actor. I’ve seen everything out so far and whilst this isn’t my favourite (#5 of the year) I think it goes over great with The Academy.

McDorman is head and shoulders the front runner at the moment. That’s not to say she goes all the way (It’s far too early for that) but she’s the only one in a very crowded field who is guaranteed a nom. The race will change once we have precursors and know who is in the final 5 but for the time being she’s in the Lead. Same goes for Rockwell although Stulbarg is close.

Screenplay is up there with Oldman as biggest favourite of the race so far.

For those calling McDorman a lock may I remind you that having the best performance doesn’t always guarantee you a win and right now she doesn’t have narrative for a second win

Can’t wait to see this film on Thursday! My most anticipated film of the season.

Could Sam Rockwell win for this? I haven’t seen the film so I’m wondering. I have a feeling that Dafoe’s performance and his film will be too small to pull off a win and lose steam once Billboards starts gaining momentum. I also think the CMBYN guys will cancel each other out if both of them are nominated and if only Stuhlbarg is nominated he could win. Rockwell seems like a likely winner but does he have the performance to back it up?

I can totally fathom a scenario in which this takes Picture, Lead Actress, Supporting Actor and Screenplay.

    Yep. My predictions as well.

Not 100% sure on Best Picture, but Three Billboards is easily winning Original Screenplay, Best Actress and Supporting Actor.

I can’t see it winning Best Picture because the movie’s subject matter isn’t important enough and even it wins for McDormand AND Rockwell (highly unlikely) it doesn’t have even a remote chance at beating Get Out for Original Screenplay. Nothing can.

I am aware that I might get pushback for saying this but I was deeply offended and upset by the trailer for this movie and I will try to explain why in my post. This movie is about a mother who is grieving due to the death of her daughter through violence. The trailer is extremely violent and it is she and her friends who are perpetrating the violence. The scene in which she physically attacks two bratty children is deeply offensive and this woman should go to jail for her assault of minors. I get that viewers get a “kick” out of violence but as someone who wishes for a non-violent society I just don’t enjoy gratuitous or condoned violence. When the violence is shown but it is condemned it’s different. I found myself disliking Frances McDormand’s character intensely while watching the trailer – shaking my head “NO” vigorously throughout it. Now I try every year to see all of the major nominees for Oscars (last year I saw all the nominees in the top six categories and 9 out of 10 of the screenplay nominees, the exception being The Lobster) and so now I am in a quandary since I do think McDormand will be nominated and it likely be nominated for it’s screenplay as well – but I really don’t want to see this movie. I have a feeling I won’t like it at all. I am trying to think of times when I have disliked the trailer only to enjoy the movie – nothing is coming to mind quickly.

    You’re such an embarrassment.

@Atypical YOU and the 8 crazed stans who liked your rude and disrespectful comment are the only genuine embarrassment here. People can have totally different opinions than you, and it is fair to judge a trailer, since that is supposed to be the first taste of the movie you are supposed to get. He didn’t say he hated the movie, he just disliked the trailer, which I also thought looked boring and annoying, kind of a similar vibe I got from Suburbicon. 🙁

I’m not convinced Get Out is even garnering a Screenplay nomination, let alone the win.

I think I prefer McDormand in 3 Billboards to her masterful work in Olive Kitteridge. With no exaggeration, it’s one of my top five favorite performances (male or female) of the decade. She expresses so much rage with her face during the silences and contemplative portions of the film. It bubbles over, of course, but her quiet scenes are just as powerful as her Oscar shouting scenes. This deserves picture, screenplay, actress, and maybe even supporting actor. If the acting branch goes crazy for this, Harrelson will show up in supporting as well. This is far and away the best film I’ve seen this year, and the fact that it keeps winning audience awards shows that the ending will not be an issue. The subject matter (sexual assault) will only bolster its chances of sweeping the season. Right now, I predict: LAFCA win, GGComedy win, SAG win, BAFTA win, Oscar win. It will lose DGA and directing Oscar to Nolan, probably.

Also, the fact that zero “experts” are predicting it to win BP continues to show how out-of-touch and clueless they are.

Please, Get Out winning at the very least Screenplay is so obvious it’s actually funny to me anyone could think it won’t even get nominated.

Three Billboards is still on the fence as far as a Best Picture nod is concerned, although it does appear to be safe for noms for Screenplay and McDormand.

The Shape of Water, Three Billboards, Lady Bird, and The Post would win Original Screenplay before Get Out.

I do, however, agree that Three Billboards probably won’t win picture but I think it’s a very safe bet for a nomination, at least for now.

Get Out in original screenplay is a safe bet for a nod and win.
