Downey, Jr. was a prior Oscar nominee, as was Cusack when she was the sole nominee for In & Out. McCarthy’s the better comparison but she’d also had lots of chatter/momentum from her Emmy win that September.

McCarthy was also in a way funnier movie and was way way way better than Haddish … I mean she was great and i think she will have a long career if she continues to work hard … but she is not awards worthy for this film … it wasnt that good. her best scenes were her pissing on people and giving a blowjob to a banana

Yeah, people will say anything without really thinking about it.

First of all Haddish is nowhere near the performance of those three. Like I mentioned earlier she comes off as an amateur making her film debut in several scenes. These are real actors.

She’s a comedian. But hardly a very well known one. Compare that to the other three names. Two of them previous nominees, one of them also in Iron Man and in the middle of a huge comeback storyline. McCarthy was somebody too. With more successful film commercially and critically. Not to mention that the film became a thing. People are still talking about Bridesmaids. And it’s been 6 years. She also had a tv show with modest ratings and an Emmy win to keep things going.

Don’t forget the type of film Haddish is in and who is voting at these award shows.

Yes, McCarthy was the chef from Gilmore Girls, which was way done by the time this film came out. Could’ve been unknown to many people just like Haddish is so it’s an appropiate comparisson. But the thing is the film. It’s not comparable. And bringing in Downey and Cusack (who had an actual character with a storyline, not just a bunch of gags) just because they had comedic performances is just crazy. Are we going to bring in Kevin Kline too?

I would love to see her as a nominee instead of say, Kristin Scott Thomas, who I imagine will be a wave rider, just there as “the wife” and maybe one relevant scene. But I’m just being realistic and not throwing out comparissons that don’t make sense.

Well, I was saying that I would go with her performance as a nominee if I were a voter. Never tried to say she had great chance at a nomination because Downey Jr and McCarthy got nominations. And I don’t think either of those performances were that great to begin with, especially Downey Jr’s.

What do you mean the type of film she’s in? Girls Trip is no more vulgar and outrageous than Bridesmaids was. It didnt get as much promotion because it was initially written off as “another black raunchy comedy” (let’s not tiptoe around that) until it actually got good reviews and exceeded expectations and then people started to pay attention.

Exactly. For what it is worth, I liked Girls Trip and Haddish’s performance much more than I liked Bridesmaids and McCarthy’s.

Coming from a black man who has lived in England his entire life and has never experienced any kind of racism it’s utter bullshit.

Please just STOP. I am really happy for you. But you have your experiences and i have had mine. And again its not about being black there are other people of color too. Besides one of my African American friends from school went to London for the summer and was told at a cafe that they don’t serve “her kind”. So you can go ahead and deny her experience too (but don’t your liberal ideals stand against denying people’s experiences?).

And people need to stop fucking responding to me if they don’t want the topic derailed, put me on your ignore list. I said what i said and i am not backtracking. The original asshole who was messing with me has disappeared but if other butthurt individuals wanna come at me, please take your shot cuz i am not going to let it go.

I just wrote a really long response to this but then thought better of it, because I literally don’t give two fucks what you or your supposed friend think of me or the country I live in.

“I am not racist. I have one African American friend.” Hahaha. Shut your racist ass up. I am the original asshole, that never disappeared. Just simply did not give a fuck about you or the other alt-right members of the board. You really think saying that a performance will not be nominated due to the “minority quota” isn’t a fucked up statement to make? But at the same time, those of color should stop complaining?

Weren’t you the same person that got excited about Game of Thrones creators first announcement of possibly creating a series on modern day slaves in America? Well since you think I disappeared, here I am.

So a lot of people didn’t like her SNL episode. Most online critics praised it though, so I think it might help to keep her in the minds of critic group voters which could amount to buzz later on.

Also, I was excited to hear that she is signing on to a bunch of films. Night School should be solid as it has the same director as Girls Trip. She also has an upcoming comedy that she herself is producing. I’m most excited though for a drama she will be in based on a graphic novel about wives of an Irish gang. Good for her. I hope she takes some acting lessons so that she is ready for drama but I cant wait for her to launch a successful career.

Honey, if some white bitch, like Amy Adams, did Girls Trip, you posters would call it Oscar worthy. Tiffany Haddish was brilliant and funny as fuck. Haddish’s performance and movie were WAY better than Melissa McCarthy and that overrated Bridesmaids. Fuck out of here!

Not really, if “some white bitch” did the same role, it would be exactly what it was, a funny, nor Oscar worthy performance.

I remember a few posters pushing hard for Amy Schumer in Trainwreck before they realized she was bottom of the dumpster juice.

She doesn’t need acting lessons to give a dramatic performance.

Many people see her acting as benign amateurish, especially after her SNL gig. While I agree with you, I think it wouldn’t hurt.

On a side note, whoever is running her team is amazing. She is getting deal after deal, the press keeps writing about her, and she just hosted SNL.
