Tim Burton to Direct live action version of Dumbo

After the massive hits of Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent and presumably now Cinderella this weekend, Dumbo is the next Disney film to be adapted into live action.

Ehren Kruger is set to write it. No release date or casting has been announced as of now. The film will be a mix of CGI and Live Action

I thought the exact same thing. I cannot imagine this turning out well… At all.

    Dumbo? Really? Uh, okay.

They’re also making Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.

People so pretty I almost want to tune in.

The Dumbo news has me yawning.

Seconded.  As bad as his remakes have been, this is likely to represent the largest quality difference between the original and the poor imitation he provides.  What makes DUMBO so great is that it’s short, lean, economical, filled with emotion, and has one of the most brilliant animated sequences ever put on film (“Pink Elephants on Parade”)

Here’s a shameless plug to my blog about my thoughts on this lazy downward spiral Burton’s career has taken: filmatelist.blogspot.com/2010/11/grimburton.html

    Great read, Filmatelist

This idea is just ridiculous – Dumbo is just not translatable to live-action. I honestly can’t imagine this being made live-action – I doubt they’ll use a live elephant, and Burton is too arty for a straight-forward CGI experience, added to that,he’s lost his touch for emotion.

Also, who wants to bet Johnny Depp will be playing Dumbo?

I honestly thought this story was a joke when I first saw it. Is there any point of this? Is anyone interested in seeing this? This whole trend is infuriating. I’m already bracing myself to be disappointed by the live-action Jungle Book (my favourite Disney animated film) and now this? What’s next? Pinocchio? The Lion King? Bambi? PLEASE STOP.

I’m surprised they haven’t announced Aladdin yet. Maybe that’s next.

Hell, they might as well start a cinematic universe and have the characters crossover lol.

Live action? With an elephant???? What will they have, several elephant ‘doubles’?

No. Absolutely No. Plus, Dumbo is iconic, and way back then, Disney was one of the few conservationists and animal advocates making films. Waaay back that is.

This really angers me to no end.

‘Aladdin’ starring Dev Patel as Aladdin and Frida Pinto as Jasmine, with Irrfan Khan as Jafar and Anil Kapoor as the Sultan. It’ll be like a ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ reunion. Add “Richard Parker” from ‘Life of Pi’ as Rajah for good measure.

For Genie, let’s go with Louis C.K.

    Danny Boyle can direct.

BOOM. I just did the work for you, Disney. lol

This is wrong on many many maaaaaaaaaany levels. Disturbing too.

I think Burton would have a better chance with Beauty and The Beast or Little Mermaid- combines more with the concep of history. But…DUMBO? NO…

So Dumbo will have abandonment issues and Johnny Depp will play the mouse I’m guessing? Also the crows, oh God the crows.
