The Oscars 2015 predictions center is now open after many weeks of entering candidates and categories. Here are results of early voting:

    http://www.goldderby.com/odds/users/300/

You can vote in six categories to begin the campaign season (picture, director, actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress). The rest of the categories will be added over the next few months.

As you make your predictions, keep in mind that all of the film industry heavyweights will be watching the rankings and odds very closely. These are determined by your picks along with our experts and editors. For that reason, please do some research before just randomly choosing people because they are past winners or nominees. If you see names of newcomers or lesser-known performers, it is almost certainly because the campaign experts are telling us that these people are scene-stealers who will have big expectations for this year.

Here is an extra note from Tom O’Neil:

We’ve checked with key studio execs and Oscar consultants in order to
get an early take and to clear up false scuttlebutt. As a result, for
example, we can tell you to bump Don Cheadle out of
your Best Actor predictions. Yes, “Miles Ahead” will unspool at the
Toronto International Film Festival, but the movie will not be released
wide till 2016. You can also bump “Joy” star Bradley Cooper
out of that category, too. Instead, he’ll campaign in supporting for
“Joy” and will have a tough time getting around the grandstanding
performance of costar Edgar Ramirez. No one at the
Weinstein Co. has yet seen “The Hateful Eight,” so they don’t know which
stars are lead or supporting, so we’re currently listing the chief ones
    all in supporting.

Have a good time voting, but get in there right away so that the odds and statistics will start generating now! VOTE HERE:

Aww, the Don Cheadle news is disappointing (assuming the film/performance is great, of course), but at least we won’t have to worry about him getting smothered during the inevitable Fassbender/DiCaprio/Redmayne wars that are to come in the next few months.

Also, sorry if this has already been mentioned and answered, but has Rooney Mara officially been deemed a Supporting contender by the studio, or is that speculation at this point?

Everything you see in the Oscar prediction center is official information from the studios or awards campaigners. This is a snapshot of what they are saying right now. Of course, they can and will make numerous changes over the next few months. People will change categories. New films will emerge. Some of these will probably disappear. But this is the official info as of now.

Awesome! I don’t want to be a pest but I noticed Diane Ladd was missing for Joy, Jeff Daniels for Steve Jobs, and Bruce Dern/Tim Roth for Hateful Eight. Any news on their parts? Other than that a great group to start with!

“Hateful Eight” is a real mystery. They are still editing, so we just went with the most obvious names to start. If we get word to add more of them, we will do it.

Ok! By the trailer it seems like Kurt Russell is going to be the lead but Christoph was pretty much a co lead in Django yet put in Supporting so that could happen again. Thanks!

With Don Cheadle out of the picture, his chances are now much bigger. I’m including him in my predictions now.

Miles Ahead is actually screening at the New York Film Festival as the Closing film, not at Toronto.

Bruce Dern/Tim Roth for Hateful Eight.

Neither are getting in, I am absolutely sure. Bruce Dern and Roth arent going to have much to do.
