Now Joaquin is scrambling to do damage control after his Oscar bashing:

Do you think the Weinstein Co. pushed Christoph Waltz up to the lead because they realized that Joaquin had committed Oscar suicide?

I knew he was full of it with those comments he made. I bet Weinstein got in his head and told him to smarten up if he wanted to win.

It seems a pattern for our collective humanity to punish those who tell the truth, especially when it is unwelcome.

Tell the truth? im not buying Phoenix’s anti-establishment towards the Oscars at all, I think he does want to win, but the guy loves being centre of attention and wants to be the so called ‘cool’ actor of the race that hates the glitz and glamour. If he truely believed in what he said he won’t turn up like George C. Scott, who genuinely didnt want one.

I’m going to defend his right to say whatever he wants. He’s American isnt he? Where theoretically he has freedom of speech? Take a look at Anne Coulter. Did he bash someone over the head with a beer bottle? Kill someone? Make a racial or antisemitic hate speech?

I agree with him about Oscar being (adjective or noun). He’s absolutely correct imo. Lol. What a guy.

Of course he can say whatever he wants, I just think he’s full of it and craves attention.

What is this ‘science’ who keeps insisting that men can compartmentalize and women not so much? All that matters is his work up on the screen. You dont have to like him, and maybe he is an attention seeker. As an actor, you know, I’m not surprised by this, if it’s true.

Lol. CoolHand, I respect the fact that you dont appear to respect Phoenix. I simply dont think he is overrated or overpraised for his perf in The Master. As far as I’m concerned, his is the best performance in the film. He’s fantastic, never overplays things, switches from comatose battery-acid drinking (I dont know what was in that concoction he made) to sudden bursts of violence, all while looking physically ill. He gave a worthy performance, even if he’s the full of it attention craver that you feel he is.

    I like him.

Well, there you go. An attempted apology is a step in the right direction… and by right direction, I mean that he’s still going to win the Oscar.

I don’t have any problems with Joaquin Phoenix. I mean what exactly did he do wrong? He merely said what most people are thinking. I’m a writer/producer/director, etc. and one of my goals is to win an Oscar someday.

But I absolutely agree with JP. The charade that Hollywood puts on every year is complete and utter bullshit. The campaigning and endless awards shows has gotten completely out of hand. Why can’t voters just, you know, judge the work that’s put before them? I know a lot of industry people don’t have time to watch movies. Since that’s the case, then why don’t they just restrict voting to those industry folks who will take the time to watch the contenders instead of relying on all this campaign bullshit?

Lol. That wasnt exactly my point, but I will say this. I think you and I are as ‘crazy’ as Joaquin. In fact, it’s possible that you have a slight edge on me here.

Are you calling me “crazed attention whore”? If so, I am an amateur compared to Mr Phoenix.

PS: A person less tactful than myself might say “it takes one to know one”! LOL!

what celeb doesn’t say shit or do shit just to get a headline. JP is one of my favorite actors and I don’t think he cares about the attention and I agree with him that the awards circuit is bullshit, I for one should think everyone who is nominated should get a Oscar not just one person. Now what JP says shouldn’t affect his chances at any awards because voters should vote for his performance not for what he says and does.

I dont think he said that for ‘attention’. I think he means it, retraction or otherwise. I wouldnt say spinning his character to look mainstream polished is one of his strengths.

Well, what if one of the nominees had an affair with your partner? Or, you ‘owe’ someone up there a huge favour? Or, someone took the role that you auditioned for, and he or she laughed at you when you didnt get it? LOL. A stretch that last one, but you know what I mean.
