Before I get judgments, I’m going to paste an article that was just released on Awards Daily. The actions of these two buffoons is evidence that something was NOT right. I understand some of you might want to get snappy with me, but read the article and draw your own conclusions. With all the countless Denzel/Casey threads that have started, I think it’s fair I give this thread a shot:

Then you’ll find this interview with the Oscars stage manager Gary Natoli very interesting:

“I was in the wings stage left with Jimmy [Kimmel] when they announced ‘La La Land.’ We watched for about 10 more seconds, and during that entire time Martha was no more than five feet away from us. When ‘La La Land’ was announced, she did not try to get my attention, she did not say anything. And she’s supposed to have memorized the winners.

“I heard John Esposito [another stage manager] on my headset say, ‘Brian says he didn’t think they said the right winner. Can you have Martha check her envelope?’ That was the first time I heard anything about it, and it was probably a minute, or a minute and 15 seconds, from the time Faye announced the wrong winner.

“She was standing there with the envelope in her hand, very low-key. And John Esposito said that Brian was very low-key too, no urgency. But we had Martha open the envelope, and it said ‘Moonlight.’ John was trying to get Brian to go on stage, and he wouldn’t go. And Martha wouldn’t go. We had to push them on stage, which was just shocking to me.”

Now why would BOTH act low-key? Why did Martha not open the envelope until she was forced to? That doesn’t read right at all. That’s their job- to correct errors. I know they’ve been fired and all, but the fact remains that this was very peculiar behavior. Was there another motive? I mean seriously, she just STOOD there? And he even acted non-chalant. Were they hoping no one would notice?

I’d always heard that the accountants had a phone that went right to the show’s director. Supposedly they were supposed to call the director if this happened and they would go to a commercial while they figured things out. Apparently that wasn’t true.
