I have watched all of the nominees for Best Supporting Actress that year, and Cate Blanchett was a great winner. I truly believe that Regina King would have been great competition for Cate that year.
Do you guy think she was snubbed?
Would she have been a preferred winner?
My favorite supporting actress performance from Ray was Sharron Warren.
King was good (as usual), but Sharon Warren was terrific. She didn’t have much screentime, but she made every second count. The cricket scene is so impactful. There are a lot of things acting awards can say to us, so when such a great work like this goes so unfairly overlooked, an actor’s commitment speaks for itself, and if reaches us and carves really deep, nobody can take that away from us.
Probably would have opted for Sharon Warren. Sad that only one role followed this for her, while her co-stars’ careers have flourished in film and especially television roles. Uniformly great supporting cast though with Regina King, Kerry Washington, and forgotten but no less great Aunjanue Ellis. The supporting actress lineup that year had to have Blanchett/Madsen/Portman in it. Okonedo and Linney? Not as much, or not so undeniable that someone from “Ray” couldn’t have replaced one of them.
Sharon Warren was amazing in this film. Despite her brief screentime, I think she deserved an Oscar nomination. King was good as usual, but I don’t think that she was snubbed.
I loved Sharon as well.
