And this is like the literal heir apparent to The Silence of the Lambs. Unless another horror/thriller early release contender has done this before.

The heir to The Silence of the Lambs?  WTF! Have we lost our minds?

I don’t know why people won’t admit that Get Out is an unusual Oscar contender, and are pretending like people speculating on the chances of the film is a double standard because it’s a movie about black people. It’s a mainstream horror satire. It doesn’t matter if it’s about black or white people, it’s not your typical Oscar movie. Is acknowledging that and being skeptical on its chances such a bad thing?

Not going to do THIS with new accounts. People who have been here for a minute knows what I mean.

So new accounts don’t deserve your attention. Totally understandable.

Dame, I’ve read about 5 of your posts already and you have a very clearly instigating tone. Don’t pretend you don’t know it.

Okay, maybe I’m a little impulsive.

The movie’s discussion thread on Reddit is a treasure trove of things people loved about it, as well as easter eggs and other details you may have missed on your first watch.

There are a couple of great analyses on  /r/TrueFilm too. It’s clear Peele put a lot of thought into making the movie and I think many acknowledge that and believe he deserves some sort of recognition for it. Add the fact that it happens to be relevant to the political climate, made a killing at the box office and has been talked about all year long, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be in the conversation for Movie of the Year.

I mean there have been complaints  about The Academy’s bias against genre movies for years. Should we not be appreciating the fact that a horror/satire is a frontrunner in a BP race?

Get Out is a socially relevant and thought-provoking masterpiece that truly did hit the zeitgeist in our culture more than any other film this year. It deserves all the praise it is getting. It is, as Miles Allen pointed out, a very unusual Oscar contender, but that only helps it this year, I think. The freshness and jaw-dropping uniqueness of Peele’s vision will more than satisfy Academy voters who are sick and tired of “more of the same” type of Oscar bait movies (see: “The Post,” “Dunkirk,” “Darkest Hour,” etc.).

It is not even the best horror/thriller film of the year. Split and mother! were miles better.

If you think Get Out is anti-white, then you should probably analyze why you think that.  Satire is not meant to be taken literally, so maybe being defensive should be a cue for personal insight and exploration.

Am I as passionate about this as I was about Moonlight?  No.  But I think a lot of us have been waiting for years for this caliber of horror to be recognized.  I’m excited to see this movie getting so much praise.

Mark Harris just tweeted this: “Talking to Oscar voters and the two worst things I’m hearing right now are, “I liked Get Out, but…come on” and “I liked Call Me By Your Name, but we did that last year.” And if they’re saying that to ME, they’re saying it.” That’s that.

I haven’t seen mother! yet so I can’t speak to that, but Split was an absolute mess from a writing standpoint.

They pretended not to be racists and homophobes last year, so what’s the point of doing it this year. The Post or Lady Bird will win.
