I watched this movie for the first time today and I’m all over the moon by it. What a wonderful, complex, emotional little story.
I’m shocked and disgusted by the fact that it missed for Best Picture, Director, in Sound categories and especially for Actress and Original Screenplay. I mean Heather Matarazzo’s leading performance was way better than previous Oscar-nominees’ performances such as Saoirse Ronan’s, Quevenzhané Wallis’, Abigail Breslin’s or Keisha Castle-Hughes’ for sure. Her breathtakingly real, mesmerizing performance is among the few performances by children which I actually consider outstanding and Oscar-worthy. It’s a shame that she didn’t make the cut.
What do you think of the movie, do you think it deserved Oscar nominations?
I haven’t seen the movie, but I do remember watching Siskel and Eberts top ten of the year and seeing they both had it there.
But it’s funny you mention it today, when i just read that there is going to be a “kinda-sorta” sequel starring Greta Gerwig and Julie Delpy. Again I haven’t seen it I mainly clicked on it because I love Delpy, but if you want to read the announcement here it is! funny coincidence.
I love this movie. It whole-heartedly deserved a best actress nomination.
