The AFI’s list of 100 classic movie quotes is a great group, but are there any you think they left off?

    Here is the list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_movie_quotes

“Long live the king.” – The Lion King
Once you hear Jeremy Irons’ delivery of that line you never forget it.

    It’s a long one, but…

Harry Lime (The Third Man): in Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace – and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.”

“No, I am your father.” Should be number 1, I think, but it’s not even on there.

    Also:
    – “Funny like I’m a clown? I amuse you?” that whole thing really OR “As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster”
    – “Did you fuck my wife?”
    – “The horror, the horror”
    – “The trick, Mr. Potter, is not minding that it hurts”

    Amongst others

“Carpe the diem. Sieze the carp.”

“Welcome to el Matador, Spanish for ‘The Matador’.”

“No regrets, that’s my motto. That, and everybody Wang Chung tonight.”

“Welcome to your first random drug test.”
“I don’t have to write a test to tell you I do drugs.”

    – “The dingo took my baby” from A Cry In the Dark

    – ‘When life gets you down, do you know what you’ve gotta do? Just keep swimming” – Finding Nemo

And when they do the new ones three years from now, they better include these –

    – “Meet me at Montauk” from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

    – “Adventure in out there!” – Up

    “Why so serious?”

That has to be the definitive one of the last decade.

I also have a soft spot this decade for “I am the captain now.”

    “Dont fuck with the babysitter”

“The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world”

“I will not be ignored Daniel”

    “that’s all”

“eat the fish bitch” (too new to be on the list but could make it in the future)

Some great ones from this year which’ll hopefully make it in the future:

‘She was the Picasso of passive aggressive Karate.’

Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale) in American Hustle

‘Anxiety, nightmares and a nervous breakdown – there’s only so many traumas a person can withstand until they take to the streets and start screaming.’

Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) in Blue Jasmine

‘I don’t see a lot of money here.’

Bud (F. Murray Abraham) in Inside Llewyn Davis

‘Look at them. They’re foul with it. They’re foul with their hate. You let it be it’s gonna come back to us in the dark of night.’

Mistress Epps (Sarah Paulson) in 12 Years a Slave

‘You have my money taped to your boobs. Technically you do work for me.’

Donnie Azoff (Jonah Hill) in The Wolf of Wall Street

“I am the captain now”, instant classic.  That one little line represents so much in this movie, it sets the rails for the rest of it and stablish the route for both leads.

    Recently (besides ones already stated):

-“I drink your milshake! I drink it up!”
-“I’m a dude, playing a dude, disguised as another dude!”
And maybe the best of all from the last decade – “I wish I knew how to quit you.”

I am today, unfortunately, reminded of this gem:
    – “I am a writer, a doctor, a nuclear physicist and a theoretical philosopher. But above all, I am a man, a hopelessly inquisitive man, just like you.”

    Amen. Or how about:

“If you already the answers to your questions then why ask, PIG F***!”

    and, most appopriately

“If we meet again in the next life, you will be my sworn enemy, and I will show you no mercy.”
