I always like to see what you all are up too Oscar week?

So what are your plans. Have any of you started partying?

Here are my plans thus far:
Saw Pina last night and loved it! Like a work of art. Will have seen only two of the docs by Oscar, the other being Paradise Lost 3 which I also thought was great.

Seeing the live action shorts this evening at TIFF Bell Lightbox. May see the animated ones too this week, but doubtful.

Seeing The Iron Lady this Thurs after downtown somewhere. Only oscar nom features I won’t have seen by then will be Extremely Loud, War Horse, Dragon Tattoo, Warrior, Harry Potter, Anonymous, Jane Eyre, W.E, Adventures of Tintin, Muppets, Transformers, Real Steel and all animated & doc shorts, and the animated features.

Come the weekend, I like to see best pic or other previous oscar winners. I have several taped from TCM, so will watch a few of these – Casablanca, Marty, Lost Weekend, All Quiet of the Western Front. May watch Sunrise again. Love that one! Tho truth be told, The Artist doesn’t hold a candle to it. I’ve also become addicated to Downton Abbey after seeing the 1st episode from season one, so may watch a few of those, given the superlative quality.

As for food, I was thinking of baking a pecan pie in honor of Minny altho will forgo certain ingredients.

Now here’s a few fun things:
Ordering from Eleni’s in NYC – http://elenis.com/store/product/best-picture/?cat=148 – you can get 18 hand-iced cookies for $65 (best actor or actress, 17 best pic cookies for $75 and cupcakes. Oh, to have your face atop a cookie of cupcake. Wouldn’t it be devine?!

Here’s another recipe for oscar cookies – http://www.bakerella.com/and-the-winner-is…/

    Food – http://www.epicurious.com/articlesguides/holidays/oscars/bestpicturemenus12
    http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/301500/20120220/oscars-2012-party-menu-ideas-nominees-moet.htm

I’ll be making some popcorn also in my new Williams Sonoma popcorn maker with some shaved parmesan & Kernels toppings.

Anyone have any ideas for booze? I’ll have to pace myself tho. Don’t want to be a hot mess come Sunday.

I know Sean lives in West Hollywood, within walking distance from all the action. Will anyone else be in town for the proceedings. If so, here’s a fun article about where to stay.
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/oscars-nominees-hotels-academy-awards-292812… my choice would be Sunset Tower, a lovely old time but refurbished hotel with an intimate feel. It’s where the Vanity Fair Oscar party is held. The Chateau Marmont is close by.

Check the following for Oscar parties. One is this evening. Other keys ones are being held every night.

My beloved Sunset Tower will host parties this Thursday. There are some private parties being held in homes in Brentwood, Beverly Hils, etc. so if you stagger around in your Sunday finest, perhaps you might trail in after a star. Perhaps a visit to Santa Monica Saturday for the Independant Spirit Awards. Casual attire means you can wear your beachwear. It’s all to fabulous for words!

Ah Ethel! I was wondering when you’d start this lovely thread.

I’ve decided NOT to have a party this year. Someone else can have it. I’ve booked a great jacuzzi room this Oscar weekend with all the amenities and no distractions, with food and drinks delivered. NOBODY save my significant other and I will know where we are. Then, I’m going to eat sushi, drink martinis, and watch as “The Artist” wins the big prizes.

Have fun Ethel! Personally I’m really looking forward to my semi-solitude.

Babypook, that sounds like utter heaven! I will likely do something similar – no drunken louts at my party this year! Just me, and a few select men and beasts.

For those in need of a tipple, don’t the drinks below sound devine as if rained down as nector from the gods! I can’t decide which to mix up Sinday so may need to round up all 5 of my flasks. They’ve been told to be at the ready!

In addition, and to remind me of home (i.e. Sunset Tower), I’ll also have Chateaux Haut Brion Pessac-Léognan Grand Vin de Graves 1995 followed by a snort of Chateau D’Yquem Sauternes 2004 iced and ready for business!

DRINKS TO ENJOY ON OSCAR WEEKEND:

The pixar team stays at the four Seasons Beverly Hills so regularly that in 2011 the bartender at the hotel’s Windows Lounge whipped up a special Spanish Buzz jalapeno margarita for the group in celebration of Toy Story 3. To celebrate this year’s Academy Awards, check out these fresh ideas for cocktails, including a vodka, mint and lemon concoction from the Beverly Hills Hotel named in honor ofThe Artist.

    • Sferra Truffle Cocktail: Four Seasons Beverly Hills: Belvedere vodka, lemon, truffle-infused acacia honey, $18.
    • Pomegranate Mojito: Peninsula Beverly Hills: Bacardi rum, mint, pomegranate and citrus juice, $16.
    • Forbidden Kiss: Hotel Bel-Air: Tanqueray “10” gin, fresh raspberries, rose elixir, lemon juice and grenadine syrup, $16.
    • The Artist – Silence is Golden: Beverly Hills Hotel: Karlsson’s Gold vodka, lemon juice, mint syrup and club soda, $17.
    • Marquis Berry Blush: Sunset Marquis: Bushmills Black Bush whiskey, mixed berries and lime juice, $16.

I will be at a nice Chicago downtown hotel (most likely Four Points or the Hyatt) with my very close friends and we are doing Belvedere vodka with mixers, Giordano’s stuffed pizza and salads, and hopefully will have a hotub in the room. I usually have a pre-show appetizer hour starting at 5pm and then once the show begins at 7:30 (Chicago time), I plan to already be quite tipsy and feeling good! I will also be blogging during the ceremony, and those who know me will know I of course will be pulling for Streep to take this baby home (and of course, I am prepared (sigh) for it not to happen…again. But I always have a ball having friends come over and share the Oscar magic with me.

    What a lovely discussion topic…

Compared to the rest of you (who really know how to celebrate!!), I’m an extremely boring person, to be honest. ‘Cos I want to know the results of my Ph.D. entrance exam (Life Sciences), due anytime this week. And that is the only thing on my mind right now, more than anything else.

I have studied hard for my exam, but if my results are not what I expected them to be, I will definitely skip the Oscars. I won’t enjoy watching it ‘cos I’d be too upset about my results. On the other hand, if the results are according to my expectations, there can be no better way to celebrate than watch the Oscars. But till my results come out, the Oscars will seem that much further away. And the wait for my results is killing me, to be honest.

I will be going to a friend’s Oscar party in which you can dress up as a character from an Oscar nominated movie.  I will be dressing up as Beaker from The Muppets.

Dear, is the look above the one your aspiring to? If so, please remember to wear something under the raincoat.

I can see why the rest of you aren’t posting here. Too busy planning lewd and lascivious activity. Hotel rooms and hot tubs indeed!

I’m in Bangkok, they’re showing the Oscars at a major theatre here, so I have to wake up at 6 bloody am and travel an hour or so. Call me crazy yes, but it would be interesting to see the audience reaction, and watch it in a movie theatre!

Always challenging to watch off the continent. Have watched televised in Amsterdam, Rome & Jarkarta and have had to go to extreme measures to ensure I’m in front of a TV broadcasting the Oscars. Amsterdam was particularly interesting. Oh, my sordid youth!

    I have done parties/bar 3 times…

-Schindler’s List year…small college gathering (Theatre students) – it was ok, but people pissed me off by talking too much.
-Million Dollar Baby year…In New Orleans (Big party thrown for RAY and all it’s noms, etc. because it was filmed there.) Hated it…couldn’t hear a damn word from the broadcast.
-Slumdog Millionaire year…in San Francisco (bar in the castro) see above words from Hated to broadcast.  Was cool to be there while MILK won it’s awards.

So I’m all used up on …prefer to watch the show in peace, until I start throwing the couch pillows all over the living room when a stupid choice wins.

    G’Day,

In Sydney the Oscars’ start at 12:30pm Monday.

I’ll probably invite 5-10 of my friends around to watch it and have lunch (any lunch suggestions?).

Although it’s late notice so I don’t know how many I’ll get.

(In Australia we also have our prime minister getting challenged in a 10am party room vote, and since I’m quite into politics I may need the Oscars to distract me from the developments)
