Prior to the release of “Chicago” in 2002, there weren’t many successful (if any at all) musicals released on the big screen, and then “Chicago” came and supposedly “revived” the genre.
I’m curious in your opinion are there any genres right now in need of being revived or at the very least given a new shot of life?
Personally, I think we need more “Chick Flicks” the kind that were so popular in the 80’s and 90’s when movies like “Fried Green Tomatoes”, “Thelma & Louise”, “Boys on the side”, “Beaches” and so on were majorly popular. I feel like there hasn’t been an all-out true chick flick in sometime. Yes, we have movies like “Bridesmaids” that appeal to female viewers, but nothing nearly as melodramatic as those other films.
It’s just a genre I love and would like to see reinvented.
I totally agree with you! I love those types of movies…. but i hate the word “Chick Flick”……. Guys like to watch them as well.
Yeah, I agree, I just didn’t know what else to call them. Heck, I’m a guy and I LOVE THEM.
Now that I think of it, the musical hasn’t had many big successes since “Dreamgirls”…
I agree musicals should be revived, but the ORIGINAL movie musical, not the endless amount of Broadway musicals. It would be nice for once to see material that was always planned to be a film.
