Last year, for the 3rd time in Razzie history, there was an exact tie for Worst Picture, between Fant4stic and 50 Shades of Grey. Could both of these DC disasters tie, for the 2nd consecutive year? Or at least is there a chance they both could get shortlisted on the nominating ballot?

I’d just love seeing the internet go nuts, with fanbabies starting a petition to boycott the Razzies “whose voters were clearly paid off by Marvel.” Think about it, that would be the funniest thing ever! The Razzies would get free publicity, and all us sane people would get a good laugh over the controversy. The only losers would be DC & Warner Bros, who honestly are the people least deserving to win. Except when it comes to Razzies, of course.

Like The People v. O.J. Simpson sweeping all 13 categories being my ultimate fantasy scenario with the Emmys, this would be my ultimate fantasy scenario with the Razzies. 😉

And FYI, I am an actual Razzie voter, and have been for the past 3 years. So if I see either of these atrocities on the ballot, you can bet that I’ll be marking them off, especially Batman v. Superman, with Jesse Eisenberg’s infamously awful Lex Luthor.

I don’t see a tie happening for both DC movies this year because there are far much worse films that were out than them.

BvS deserves it most, but let’s not forget Apocalypse, Warcraft, and Zoolander 2.

I’m calling it right now…Dirty Grandpa will sweep the Razzies next year. It deserves to.

They won’t- that is, tie for ‘worst’ honors or even be nominated for Worst Picture, seeing that there’s the even more putrid likes of God’s Not Dead 2, Gods of Egypt, Dirty Grandpa, Mother’s Day, Norm of the North, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Nina (aka ‘the worst biopic EVER!’) and below all, Independence Day: Regurgitation to deal with, not to mention the upcoming remake of Ben-Hur (a sure-fire dud/stinker if there ever was one)…

It’s early. There are plenty of ‘stinkers’ and embarassments still coming down the pike.

I’ll put my chip next to the biggest Box Office critical flop (which would put BvsS in the mix with Gods of Egypt and Indy Day…)

I actually thought Warcraft was pretty damn entertaining, and am honestly curious to see how they continue the story with the sequel (confirmed by Chinese Twitter).

Apocalypse sucked but Fassbender did decent for the 1st half and it got merely mixed reviews. Zoolander 2 just looked meh and nowhere near as good as the original.

Not many worse film performances than Jesse Eisenberg in BvS though. Can we at least agree to that?

I actually heard Alice through the Looking Glass was supposed to be decent! Jeremy Jahns thought it was better than the original, though he still didn’t care for it.

And if you look at Rotten Tomatoes, Alice is at 30%, whereas BvS and Suicide Squad are both slightly worse-reviewed at 27%. Both DC disasters are the very definition of Razzie-worthy, and I will be disappointed if both are shut out or don’t do very well on the nominating ballot.

Personally I think both films shouldn’t even be considered to be nominated for worst picture. They are the results of simply wanting more. They just were disappointing. They had higher expectations. They are just mediocre films. Plus they all have their standout performances like Gal Gadot and Margot Robbie. Then again it’s the Razzies so they love to try and ruin careers and stuff.

I don’t think it’s going to happen (my guess and this seems like a very likely contender for that dubious honor is that Fifty Shades of Black is going to win that one) but if BvS is nominated I think it could win. From what I’ve heard about SS, (and I’m seeing it tomorrow so this could change my opinion) is that it isn’t as bad as BvS. Plus, Zoolander 2 was horrible and I am praying it gets a ton of Razzie noms.

Absolutely not. I don’t think either of them will be nominated for Worst Picture, but they certainly won’t win. If either of them is seen as worse than Norm of the North, Huntsman Winter’s War, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Nine Lives, or any other crap movies that make BvS and Suicide Squad look like Oscar winners, the little respect I have for the Razzies will be gone forever.

That being said, Jessie Eisenberg is certainly a high-profile contender for Worst Supporting Actor, though his performance was infinitely worse than the actual movie. The Razzies need to start going for actual trash movies instead of poorly-recieved but not worst-of-the-worst shock factors.

I’d actually give Suicide Squad 3/5 stars. I never was bored and Margot Robbie and Will Smith were really good. There were a lot of weird things happening, but I mean sometimes the comics get weird so it made sense to me. Idk it felt like a marvel movie at times but just not as consistent with the tone and the drama never felt earned like it does at Marvel. However, it’s a step in the right direction. Critics shouldn’t have had the highest hopes and maybe things wouldn’t have seemed so negative. Cara was miscast, but I can see her in other superhero movie roles. She’s talented but her character wasn’t well written. Basically, if the Razzies go for this and her they’re stupid and going for publicity.

As I said above, Alice Through the Looking Glass actually got better critical reviews than BvS and Suicide Squad. People will forget The Huntsman sequel easily, but BvS was infamously bad, the memorably awful film that stands as a perfect example of how NOT to make a movie. BvS and Suicide Squad were both definitely “trash movies”, and deserve to be nominated for Worst Picture at the very least IMO, along with Gods of Egypt and Norm of the North, and MAYBE if it’s shortlisted on the nominating ballot, Hillary’s America from Dinesh D’Sousa. I would normally consider the D’Sousa disaster a lock for a Worst Picture nom no matter what, but the fact his previous 2 “documentaries” got completely shut out by the Razzies makes Hillary getting in seem unlikely.

It’s not a matter of expectations, as even non-fans who have no connection or investment in the original source matierial like critics hated it as well as fans.

As a Razzie voter, I’m not going for publicity, I’m simply going for genuine recognition of the WORST in cinema, and for me both DC atrocities tying for Worst Picture would send the ultimate message to the studio. Which is, to quote Roger Ebert, “Your movie sucks.”

Honestly, if BvS and/or Suicide Squad don’t get nominated for Worst Picture, I’d only be mad if something like Warcraft or the Ninja Turtles sequel gets nominated, since those both got slightly better critical reviews than those 2 DC things, and I thought the former did a decent job of setting up its universe for a total Warcraft-newcomer like me (I’m even kind of excited for the sequel now!), and the TMNT sequel was a passably entertaining kids movie.

At least Warcraft fans loved Warcraft. I don’t know how many DC fans LOVED BvS, although I have met a few who enjoyed the story. Opinions are opinions after all. Suicide Squad has 26% on Rotten Tomatoes, and for the record, that’s just 1% higher than last year’s Worst Picture WINNER, 50 Shades of Grey. Just sayin. :\
